๐Ÿšข Delivering Excellence in IHM Compliance โš“

As part of the vesselโ€™s statutory and operational compliance requirements, we have successfully conducted the Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) survey onboard SAMUDRA NIDHI. ๐Ÿšข

The survey was carried out in accordance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) Resolution MEPC.379(80) and aligned with the requirements of the Hong Kong Convention (HKC) and the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EU-SRR) for hazardous material control and documentation. ๐Ÿ“˜

๐Ÿ” Scope of the survey included:

๐Ÿ”น Onboard sample collection and verification
๐Ÿ”น Identification and documentation of hazardous materials
๐Ÿ”น Compilation of the IHM Part-I report for compliance readiness

This IHM survey provides the vessel with a verified baseline for hazardous material management, supporting safe operations, transparent maintenance planning, and future regulatory inspections.

We appreciate the cooperation and support extended by the vesselโ€™s team throughout the survey. ๐Ÿค

๐ŸŒ A Small Story from the Last Few Months in Global Shipping ๐Ÿšข

For almost two years, many vessels avoided the Red Sea and took the longer route around Africa. Ship tracking images during this period showed vessel trails stretched thousands of extra miles โ€” a reminder of how fragile global trade routes can be.

During that time, something interesting happened.

Even older ships - the ones usually close to retirement - suddenly became valuable again. Long detours meant the world quietly absorbed 6โ€“8% of the fleet just to keep cargo moving. Economics changed overnight, and vessels that were 15โ€“20 years old kept sailing because they were needed.

Then the Red Sea reopened.

Almost instantly, the rhythm of the shipping industry changed:

๐Ÿ”น Freight rates softened
๐Ÿ”น More vessels returned to normal routing
๐Ÿ”น Owners revisited decisions that had been on hold for nearly 18 months

It was like watching a frozen clock start ticking again.

Ships that had unexpectedly received an extended working life are now naturally moving back toward retirement or recycling, new ships are entering the fleet, regulations are tightening and gradually, and suddenly, the fleet feels like itโ€™s correcting itself after a long pause.

๐Ÿ“Œ Takeaway:

๐Ÿ”บ The reopening of the Red Sea didnโ€™t just restore a trade route โ€” it resumed a story that had been on hold.
๐Ÿ”บ Over the next 1โ€“2 years, this shift may quietly reshape the age, efficiency, and sustainability profile of the global fleet.
