Ratha Yatra may have wrapped up and the giant chariots are safely back, but here is a fascinating piece of tradition: the festival marks a divine journey to the Gundicha Temple, viewed mythologically as the home of the Lord’s aunt, Queen Gundicha. Tradition holds that the deities spend nine days there enjoying family time and hospitality including the famous baked ricecake Podopitha, before making their grand return. The crowds might have cleared and the Grand Road is quiet once again, but the spirit of the journey lives on. 🛞✨
