For leech protection during trekking, especially in wet forests, waterfalls and monsoon conditions:

* 🧦 Wear leech socks — one of the best physical barriers. Pull them up to the knees and tuck your trekking pants inside.
* 👖 Wear full-length trekking pants and avoid shorts.
* 🥾 Use closed trekking shoes with good coverage; tuck pants into socks/leech socks.
* 🧴 Apply a commercial insect/leech repellent to exposed skin and/or clothing as directed on the product label. Reapply when the label recommends, especially after getting wet.
* 🌿 Avoid standing unnecessarily in wet grass, leaf litter and muddy vegetation, where leeches are common.
* 🔍 Check every 15–30 minutes around your shoes, ankles, socks and legs.
* 🎒 Carry antiseptic, gauze/bandages and spare dry socks.
* 🪱 If a leech attaches, gently detach it rather than yanking it off. Wash the bite and apply firm pressure with clean gauze until the bleeding stops.
* ❌ Avoid burning an attached leech or putting harsh chemicals on your skin.
