HOLI 8 March 2023

Holi, also known as the festival of colours, is one of the most important festivals celebrated in India. Holi is a celebration of the divine love between Lord Krishna and Radha and the victory of good over evil. It is also marked as a harvest festival, commemorating spring's arrival and the end of winter.

Legend associated with Holi elaborates the story of king Hiranyakashipu, his son Prahalad - a devotee of Lord Vishnu, and his demoness aunt, Holika. Indian mythology says that Hiranyakashipu was blessed with a boon - he could not be killed by a man or animal. Therefore, he forced people to worship him. However, when his son became a devotee of Lord Vishnu and refused to worship him, Hiranyakashipu asked his sister Holika to kill him by sitting on a pyre while wearing a flame-shielding cloth. However, Prahlad prayed to Lord Vishnu to protect him - summoning a gust of wind that transferred the cloth from Holika to him. Thus, a day before Holi, Holika Dahan is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil.

COVID travel update: Govt. relaxes norms; face masks no longer mandatory in air travel.

As per the latest developments, the Civil Aviation Ministry of India has issued revised COVID travel guidelines. As per the guidelines, wearing face masks will no longer be compulsory during air travel, and air passengers will not be penalized for the same. Additionally, no fine will be imposed for not wearing a face mask while traveling in a flight.

Till now, wearing face masks was compulsory during air travel. If reports are to go by, the latest development comes in the wake of dip in COVID cases.

In a communication to the scheduled airlines, the Ministry stated that the latest decision has been taken in line with the government's policy of a graded approach to COVID-19 management response. The Ministry also added that the in-flight announcements henceforth may only mention that in view of the threat posed by COVID-19, all passengers should preferably use mask/face covers.

Referring to the latest development, an airline industry official stated that the Ministry's decision is with immediate effect and that the carriers will be communicating the same to the crew.

International Day of Yoga, Tuesday, 21 June 2022

The first International Day of Yoga was observed around the world on June 21, 2015.

Practiced in India since the 5th century, Yoga has been beneficial in keeping the body and mind in sound health. A holistic approach, Yoga targets all the different systems of the body and mind. It is said that the asanas make the body strong and flexible, as health improves; the mind too is renewed with confidence. The practice of Pranayama regulates the purification of the internal system and the organs, acting as a superior and able supplement to asanas. The energy that is generated in the body through these physical practices is then channeled into meditation or Dhyan for stability, peace and calm.
