🚢 Current Reality of a Freight Forwarding Logistics Transportation NVOCC Operators — Now with War Impact ⚓️ — Logistician Madhur Arora

“Where is my shipment?”
“Why is my container stuck?”
“Any update on vessel arrival?”
“Why these extra charges?”

Behind every shipment, there’s a logistics professional managing chaos.

But today, it’s not just delays…
It’s geopolitics reshaping global trade.

The ongoing Middle East conflict between Iran, Israel, and the US has added a whole new layer of uncertainty:

⚠️ Key shipping routes like the Strait of Hormuz — handling ~20% of global oil — are under constant risk
⚠️ Vessels are being rerouted or delayed due to security threats
⚠️ War-risk insurance & fuel costs are skyrocketing
⚠️ Carriers are already facing millions in weekly additional costs — and passing it on to customers
⚠️ Energy supply disruptions are impacting countries like India directly.

All this means:

🔹 More delays
🔹 Higher freight rates
🔹 Increased demurrage & detention
🔹 Unpredictable transit times

And still, the expectation remains — “deliver on time.”

Let’s be real:
Shipping agents today are not just coordinators…

They are crisis managers in a global war-influenced supply chain.

Respect to every logistics professional navigating this storm daily. 👏

⚠️ 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 – 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻⚓️

The security situation around the Strait of Hormuz is now significantly impacting shipping operations across the Upper Gulf region, forcing several global carriers to suspend or restrict cargo bookings.

Key ports including , , , , and are currently facing operational disruptions due to security concerns, insurance risks, and carrier restrictions.

Major shipping lines such as , , , , , , and have already implemented booking restrictions or service adjustments for Gulf routes.

𝙆𝙚𝙮 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩 :

• Cargo bookings to several Upper Gulf ports restricted or suspended.

• Freight rates expected to increase across Gulf trade lanes.

• Transit times likely to extend by 7–15 days.

• War risk insurance surcharges may apply.

• Rising congestion at alternative transshipment hubs
Current Alternative Routing Trends.

• → ( / ) → Transshipment to Gulf destinations.

• Nhava Sheva → Saudi Arabia ( / ) → distribution via land bridge.

• Limited routing via East Coast ports ( / )

At present, Oman and Saudi ports are emerging as safer and more stable logistics hubs to maintain supply chain continuity for Gulf-bound cargo.

The global logistics and maritime industry will continue monitoring developments closely as the situation evolves.

Due to the recent disruption around the Strait of Hormuz, some vessels carrying Indian export cargo are unable to reach their destination and are returning to Indian ports.

To support trade during this situation, the Government Of India has issued a special facilitation under Section 143AA of the Customs Act, 1962.

The escalating Middle East conflict and the reported closure risk of the Strait of Hormuz is not just geopolitical noise — it is a structural shock to global supply chains.

As logistics professionals, analysis must be strategic — not emotional.
---

🌍 1️⃣ Energy Supply Disruption = Freight Cost Inflation

Nearly 20% of global crude oil & LNG trade transits through this corridor.

Immediate Impact:
✔ Spike in bunker fuel prices
✔ Ocean freight surge (tankers, bulk, container lines)
✔ Inland transport cost escalation

For India and other importing economies, this creates cascading cost pressure across:

&

inputs

Energy volatility = Freight volatility.
---

🚢 2️⃣ War Risk Premium & Insurance Shock

Shipping lines typically respond with:
War Risk Surcharge ( )
Emergency Risk Premium ( )
Gulf service suspension or rerouting

Operational Consequences:
✔ Longer transit times
✔ Container imbalance
✔ Vessel bunching at alternate hubs
✔ Schedule unreliability

Freight contracts without risk clauses will face immediate stress.
---

📦 3️⃣ Cargo Segments Most Vulnerable

Petrochemicals & polymers
Crude & refined petroleum
Fertilizers
Construction raw materials
Project cargo from GCC nations

⚠️ Exporters must activate:

Freight volatility clauses
Cost pass-through mechanisms
Dynamic pricing models
---

📊 4️⃣ Strategic Alternatives (Limited Buffer)

Pipelines via UAE & Saudi Arabia can absorb partial volume.
However, maritime capacity through the Strait cannot be fully replaced.

➡ Volatility is inevitable.
➡ Stability will take time.
---

🇮🇳 India-Specific Outlook
For Indian EXIM trade:
✔ Rupee pressure from higher oil imports
✔ Increased landed cost
✔ SME liquidity tightening
✔ Margin compression for freight forwarders

Immediate Action Plan:
✔ Advance booking strategy
✔ Fuel adjustment clauses in contracts
✔ Multi-port sourcing diversification
✔ Inventory buffer planning
✔ Strong client communication

🔴 PUBLIC INTEREST TRADE ADVISORY | IMPORTANT NOTICE

⚠️ Attention: Freight Forwarding Logistics Transportation Nvocc Operators & Trade Partners!!

Trade community is hereby advised to exercise enhanced due diligence before initiating any outward remittance for import/export freight payments.

📌 It has been observed in multiple recent cases that when Citibank US (USA) is used as an intermediary bank, remittances are getting stuck for days/weeks, resulting in:

❌ BL release delays
❌ Expiry of free time
❌ Detention & demurrage
❌ Serious commercial losses to trade

🚨 Recent Case (Industry Reference):
A Mumbai-based freight forwarder remitted USD 20,000 from an EEFC account to a shipping line’s MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co in USD account with another bank. As Citi Bank (USA) was involved as intermediary, funds have been held for over a week with queries not aligned with standard RBI / FEMA practice.

⚖️ Reality Check:

Banks do NOT bear detention, demurrage, or commercial losses.

The trade suffers.

🔔 Strong Advisory to Trade:

✔️ Always verify intermediary bank details in advance.

⚠️ If intermediary bank is CITI BANK, reconsider the route or hold remittance till a safer channel is confirmed.

✅ Prevention is better than detention & demurrage.

📢 This notice is shared in public interest for industry awareness and risk mitigation.

A logistician is someone who analyzes and coordinates an organization's supply chain—the system that moves a product from supplier to consumer. They manage the entire life cycle of a product, which includes how a product is acquired, distributed, allocated and delivered. Logisticians work in nearly every industry.
