Rangzen (Freedom) bracelets were first made by Tibetan political prisoners in Lhasa, Tibet. They were woven from white and black yak hair or from whatever bits of thread were available in prison. The bracelet pattern of “nine eyes” has a deep historical significance. The design is based on the traditional slingshot used by Tibetan nomads to protect their herds from wolves.
It is known that the first Tibetan freedom bracelets were made by the famous prisoner, scholar and freedom fighter, Geshe Yulo Dawa Tsering. He served 20 years in prison after his participation in the March 1959 Uprising in Lhasa. In prison Geshe Yulo Dawa Tsering made the bracelets and secretly handed them out to his fellow prisoners who wore them as a form of silent protest. When the guards asked the meaning of the bracelets, the Tibetans explained that the 9-eyed pattern protected the wearer from numerous fatal diseases, nervous disorders and other illness. Eventually these bracelets became very famous among Tibetans and were worn by thousands of Tibetans worldwide.

The bracelet we are selling today is handwoven by a Tibetan Refugee woman in exile. 100% cotton black and white yarns are used to make these bracelets. The bracelet measures (17.5cm) and is adjustable to fit most wrist sizes. Our business with Tibetan women in exile encourages them to be independent and empower them. Hope we continue to encourage each other and support small businesses in exile Tibetan community.

Tyrannies have come and gone and Caesars and Czars and dictators. But the spirit of man goes on for ever. Tibet will be resurrected.

-50 Tam currency notes were issued in 1926.
-Before the first banknotes appeared, printing in Tibet was normally done exclusively with black ink. This technique was perfected with the initial production of multicoloured 50 Tam notes in 1926, when the use of different printing blocks was introduced, one for each colour.
-In 1941, According to orders from the regent, the printing of the 50 Tam notes will be discontinued from then on.

There are few Srangs left in the world in the hands of few people who know its rarity and importance. Tibetan currency is one of the biggest pieces of evidence that Tibet is an independent country illegally occupied by China.

Another important mint was located in Trabshi (4 kilometers north of Lhasa on the way to Sera monastery). This mint was modernized in the early 1930s, all the machinery of the other mints was subsequently transferred to this establishment, which was operated as the only Tibetan Government mint from 1932 onwards[22] It had the official name Trabshi Lotrü Lekhung (grwa bzhi glog ´khrul las khung, the "Trabshi electric machine factory").[21] Nowadays the huge compound of the former mint is occupied by one of Lhasa's several prison for political prisoners , known as "Trabshi Prison".

A mint is a primary producer of a country's currency, and it has the consent of the government to manufacture coins to be used as legal tender.

-10 Srang currency notes were issued between 1941 and 1948.
-It was discontinued after the government started to mint 10 Srang coins.
-The seals used on the 10 Srang currency notes are not known from earlier notes issued. The red seal has a round frame, and the black seals are the same as previous tams but are much smaller.

The proposal for printing 25 Srang currency notes was authorised by Takra Rinpoche, a regent at that time.

Hi folks! Do you remember old Dharamsala when streets were small and crowds were less but it was still alive and bustling? Around every corner you hear the chants of Om mani padme hum tune and every little shops beaming with their own specialities. Among those shops one stood out as one of the first and oldest Tibetan souvenir shop in Dharamsala. It was located on Jogibara street, Next to Memory Video hall/ restaurant.
I love Tibet shop! It captured the essences of Tibetan lifestyle and struggles in exile in most unique and creative ways. We were the first to create and sell some of the most famous Tibetan stickers, postcards and accessories. Some of those includes the famous car hanging accessory that we get to see in every Tibetan car nowadays. The famous car hanging accessory with pictures of His Holiness the Dalai Lama was our Pala's (dad) idea. We created and sold many of those car accessory and people loved it. Free Tibet and save Tibet slogan stickers, batches and post cards were also first created at our shop. We sold many of them and kept the spirits of Tibetan people going with these inspiring little stickers and accessories.
Another first creation of our shop was plastic (Tsepto), originally a butter sculpture placed in Chema on Losar, Tibetan new year. It was a hit among Tibetan people on Losar and for gift exchange. After all it was convenient and many of us don't have time and skills for detailed butter sculptures. Our shop was also very much loved by tourists and many of them still come back to ask where we are after many years. We moved our location to mini market, the underground market at main chowk few years ago. Now due to Covid-19 we closed the shop for sometime but after many years we are back online!!
We are back on social media with new products and items. I on behalf of I love Tibet shop team would like to thank each and everyone of you for supporting us and loving us and also following us on Facebook. We are indeed grateful and blessed. Your single like and share counts. We will be opening our instagram account very shortly with new products full of creativity , hopes and awareness.
