Waist deep on the way to Babarishi.

This is one of our favourite days on the mountain — not just because the powder is ridiculous, but because of where you end up. The group skis down through the forest to the Babarishi shrine, we stop, have tea, have a look around, take it all in.

It's a 500 year old Sufi shrine sitting quietly in the middle of nowhere, in the snow, in the Himalayas. The locals have been coming here for generations. And we just skied to it through waist deep powder.

That's a Gulmarg day. It's never just the skiing.

End of a long day on the mountain.

Shabir and his son. Fire going. Nobody needs to say anything.

This is what an evening at Shabir's lodge in Tangmarg looks like — and honestly it might be one of our favourite parts of the whole trip. You come off the hill tired in the best possible way, the fire's already lit, there's food on, and you just sit. No hotel lobby. No bar music. Just a Kashmiri ski family who've been doing this their whole lives, and a warmth that's hard to put into words.

Shabir's place is new to the Wildsnow family for 2026/27 and we couldn't be happier about it. If you want the real Gulmarg experience — not just the skiing but the place, the people, the culture — this is where you find it.

This is David.

Late 60s. Spent his skiing life on the hard groomed snow of Whakapapa.

Look at that turn.

David came on the trip not knowing quite what to expect from deep Himalayan snow. Within a few days he had it completely wired — and by the end of the tour he was skiing lines that would make skiers half his age jealous.

He had the time of his life.

We hear it a lot — "I'm not sure I'm good enough for Gulmarg." David is exactly why we push back on that. If you can ski, we can get you skiing powder. The mountain does most of the teaching — you just have to show up.

Meet Mossam.

He's 8 years old. He just won the Chinar Open Winter Games — U14 Boys. First place. The kid next to him on the podium can barely believe it.

Mossam is Musha's son. Musha is our co-founder, one of Gulmarg's finest guides, and a man who has given his life to skiing in Kashmir. Turns out the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

This is what we love about Gulmarg. It's not just a place to come and ski — it's a community that lives and breathes the mountain. Watching the next generation absolutely rip it, at 8 years old, in a field of kids up to 14… honestly it doesn't get much better than that.

Proud of you Mossam. Musha, you've got a serious one on your hands.

David, Musha and I hiked for 10 minutes. Then he skied an awesome line.

Behind him — K2 and Nanga Parbat. Two of the highest mountains on earth, just sitting there in the background like it's nothing.

This is Gulmarg. A short boot pack, a line nobody else has touched, and a view that doesn't feel real until you're standing in it.

No helicopter. No cat. Just legs, powder snow, and one of the great ski experiences on the planet.

2027 season is coming together. If this is the kind of day you want — let's talk.
