“There is no time to get bored in the world as beautiful as this”…
🌄✨ Discover the Monolithic Rock Pillar- Sigiriya Rock! ✨🌄
Soar above one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic landmarks where history and natural beauty collide in the most breathtaking way. The rock mountain stands tall and proud, guarding secrets from the centuries past. 📸 This aerial view showcases the grandeur of the ancient rock fortress built by King Kasyapa over 1,500 years ago. Close to the top of the fortress, there’s a Lion’s Gate; a stairway with two massive lion paws made up of stone on either side. The legend has it that there was once a lion’s face sculpted into the rock as well, but it’s been corroded by the elements over the years. And that’s how Sigiriya - which translates as ‘lion rock’ - got its name.
🏰🌳 Did you know? Sigiriya is not just a palace in the shape of a monumental lion but it also features extensive gardens, sophisticated water retention systems, and beautiful frescoes. Regardless of the beauty of the gardens, your eyes will unceasingly retreat to the impending silhouette of Sigiriya itself. Travellers begin the final hike to the top through the open paws of the lion, one of the few remaining portions of the palace that are still intact.
🏞️Fun Fact: It is a UNESCO heritage site expressed as the eighth wonder of the world.
It’s a true marvel of ancient engineering and artistry! Indulge yourself in the enthralling tales of the bygone at Sigiriya. Double-tap if you love exploring ancient wonders and hit the follow button to plan a journey with us to the heart of Sri Lanka. 🌍✨
