Q - Solution to a “burnout “ ?
A - a : Cutting down
b: Increasing activity
We hear often people coming off the pandemic and complain of fatigue and burnout
When one feels exhausted or overwhelmed , the obvious answer is taking the foot off the gas.
I’d argue the opposite.
Maybe the opposite of burnout isn’t doing “nothing” or scaling back . it’s engagement.
Adding energising activities to your schedule just may make life more “doable”
We all have the same 168 hours / week - but “time” is also the story we tell ourselves where the “to do lists” seem never ending - here maybe the addition of engaging activities changes the narrative
Maybe instead of relaxing with a bit of TV in your downtime - maybe take a walk or take time for a hobby (build Lego ??- there is no age for it )
Maybe the answer to stress is not cutting back but engaging more
My 4 personal favourites which I “make time for “ which charges me and brings that energy to my work and everything I do
1- meditation : starting the day with calm and clear head
2- sports - healthy body influences your mind
3- learning a new language (Dutch) - flexes the brain
4- flying ( lucky to be able to indulge my childhood dream )
What do u find energising and is it part of your daily/ weekly life routine ?
As a wise man once said - when u have 8 hours to cut a tree , spend a few hours sharpening the AXE 😊
