Microsoft to set up new 4,000-employee campus in Uttar Pradesh; second-largest in India

Microsoft currently has two campuses in India located in Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

US-based technology behemoth Microsoft has agreed to set up its third campus in India. The new campus in Noida will be the second-largest among the three in terms of employee capacity, two of which are in Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

Microsoft MD Rajiv Kumar confirmed the news during a virtual meeting with Uttar Pradesh’s MSME & Export Promotion Minister Sidharth Nath Singh. The state will roll out the "red carpet" facility to Microsoft to make it easier for the company to do business, Singh said.

“The company has said that they want to move their North India campus to Greater Noida - Smart City. The next step will be a site inspection by the team both in Greater Noida and along the Yamuna Expressway followed by their proposal which the state government will examine," Singh told The Economic Times.

As mentioned, Microsoft currently has two campuses in India located in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. Both these campuses have a capacity of 5,000 and 2,000 employees, respectively.

The third campus is likely to be set up near the Jewar International Airport along the Yamuna Expressway that connects Greater Noida with Agra.

Other companies like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Wipro, and Haier are also in various levels of discussions with the state government of bringing in investment in the Noida/Greater Noida regions.

Noida Metro Aqua Line to be inaugurated by UP CM Yogi Adityanath tomorrow; security tightened

Noida Metro Aqua Line will be inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on January 25. Union housing and urban affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri will also accompany the chief minister at the inauguration.

Noida Metro's Aqua line is all set to be inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday. Ahead of the inauguration of the Noida-Greater Noida Metro Rail line, security has been tightened in and around the area for chief minister's visit. According to reports, Union housing and urban affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri will also accompany the chief minister at the inauguration of the metro.

After the inauguration, the chief minister will travel 14 stations to the last station at the Greater Noida Depot in the metro. The Union minister is also set to take a ride with the CM, it said.

According to a report, the rail corridor, which would run between Sector 51 station in Noida and the Depot Station in Greater Noida will have a total of 21 stations - 15 of them in Noida and six in Greater Noida.

Noida Metro's Aqua line: All you need to know
Route and speed of Aqua Line
The Aqua line, which will have 19 rakes with 4 cars each, will halt on the Sector 76, 101, 81, NSEZ, Noida Sector 83, 137, 142, 143, 144, 145, 146, 147, 148, and Greater Noida's Knowledge Park II, Pari Chowk, Alpha 1, Delta 1, GNIDA Office and Depot metro stations, said the report.

The trains are designed to run at a maximum speed of 80 kmph, clocking an average speed of 37.5 kmph.

Interchanging sections of Aqua Line
The Aqua Line of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) will have interchange sections at various stations. Commuters will have to get down at the Sector 52 metro station of the Blue Line and reach the Noida Sector 51 station of the Aqua Line, covering a stretch of around 200 metres.

Noida Metro Aqua Line to start on Friday: Fares and smart cards
The minimum fares for the Aqua Line will Rs. 9 and the maximum Rs. 50, the NMRC had announced in December 2018. Commuters could buy QR-coded paper tickets or use smart cards, the report said. The smart cards being used for the Delhi Metro will, however, not be valid for travel in the Noida Metro.

Noida Metro Aqua Line inauguration: Seats and arrangements for senior citizens
Similar to the Delhi Metro, there would be different seats for ladies in the Noida Metro. Seats reserved for women, senior citizens and differently abled persons would have different colours.

According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), both ends of the train would have dedicated space for wheelchair in driving trailer cars.

The NMRC will be assisted by the DMRC in operating the Aqua Line, over the next one year.

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) had conducted the final and mandatory safety inspection of the corridor last month, which gave its approval to the NMRC for launching commercial operations.

The Aqua Line, whose construction started in May 2015 and was completed in record time, was initially expected to be opened for public in November 2018, then December.

Noida Metro Aqua Line will be inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on January 25. Union housing and urban affairs minister Hardeep Singh Puri will also accompany the chief minister at the inauguration.

Jewar airport: Rs 4000 crore to be spent on land acquisition

The Uttar Pradesh government will spend Rs 4,000 crore on land acquisition for the Noida international greenfield airport project near Jewar, officials said.

The State Civil Aviation Department will spend Rs 1,500 while the Noida Development Authority will extend a matching amount.

The Greater Noida Authority and the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) will be extending another Rs 500 crore each, state government officials said after the state cabinet approved the spending.

About 1,441 hectares have been identified in the first phase of the project. The airport is expected to start operation in 2022-23, with an initial capacity of 60 lakh passengers.

The state government had on May 29 signed a pact with YEIDA, Noida and Greater Noida Industrial Development authorities to expedite the project ex*****on.

Uttar Pradesh Civil Aviation Minister Nand Gopal Gupta had earlier said that concessionaire for setting up the airport under public-private partnership model will be selected via global bidding mechanism.

The nodal agency, YEIDA, is in the process of preparing bid document for selection of the concessionaire, and the bidding process is likely to commence by July-end, the officials said.

According to the Technical Economic Feasibility Report (TEFR), the airport project is expected to generate about one lakh employment opportunity.

The airport project received in-principle approval from the Centre on April 23. The foundation-laying ceremony is likely to be performed towards October-end.

Apart from the socio-economic benefits in National Capital Region, Jewar airport is expected to ease the pressure on Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

The Uttar Pradesh government will spend Rs 4,000 crore on land acquisition for the Noida international greenfield airport project near Jewar, officials said.

Metro link to Kalindi Kunj only after July

The 3.9-km Metro link between Kalindi Kunj and Botanical Garden is not likely to roll before July-end this year. The corridor, where civil work and trials have nearly finished, is awaiting an inspection from the commissioner of Metro railway safety (CMRS).

"After the CMRS — working under the administrative control of the Union ministry of civil aviation — is satisfied with the safety norms, he will give a nod for the passenger movement on the line," Anuj Dayal, executive director, corporate communications, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), told TOI.

"After we get the sanction, the date for inauguration will be fixed and the Metro line will be launched," he said.

NOIDA - New Okhla Industrial Development Authority has also written to the CMRS to expedite inspections along the corridor.

According to the officials, trials continue for nearly two months for trains operated by drivers, but for the driverless trains to be used in this corridor, meticulous trials have been undertaken for more than five months.

"Currently, synchronisation of coaches with signalling and track circuiting are in the final stages, which could conclude any day," Dayal said. Initially, train operators will run the trains, but gradually, the trains will operate on driverless mode, officials said. Trials for this link started last year in October.

This particular link from Botanical Garden till Kalkaji Mandir Metro station has nine elevated stations — Botanical Garden, Okhla bird sanctuary, Kalindi Kunj, Jasola Vihar Metro Shaheen Bagh, Okhla Vihar, Jamia Millia Islamia, Sukhdev Vihar metro station, Okhla NSIC metro station and Kalka Mandir, Delhi.

The Kalindi Kunj-Botanical Garden corridor will connect to DMRC's Magenta line. After the launch of this line, Noida will have two colour-coded lines—Blue line and Magenta line—operating out of the city.

Once the Rs 845-crore corridor is ready, commuters will no longer have to go to Rajiv Chowk metro station to take the Yellow line (Huda City Centre Metro, Gurgaon to Samaypur Badli) as the corridor will form a ringed route and connect Botanical Garden station with Hauz Khas station via Amity University, Kalindi Kunj and Kalkaji Mandir station.

Noida Metro links may be ready before deadline

The upcoming metro corridors between Noida and Greater Noida, and City Centre and Sector 62, are likely to become operational in 2018, ahead of the deadline.

According to Rama Raman, Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary (Industries) and chairman of the Noida authority, work is on in full swing on these lines. “Trial runs on the Noida-Greater Noida and City Centre-Sector 62 lines will take place this year. However, commercial run of both lines will start in 2018. The deadline is April 2018, but we are expecting to begin operation before that,” said Mr. Raman.

Functional by July
Also, officials say that the Noida-Kalindi Kunj line is likely to become functional in July this year.

Mr. Raman, who also reviewed other development projects, has now directed officials to take action against workers and contractors responsible for delay in projects.

He also mentioned that a mini-stadium was being constructed in Sarfabad in Noida. “Electrical work is pending, which is likely to be completed this year,” he said.

Drive against violators
Talking about encroachment, Mr. Raman said he had directed officials to run an intensive drive against violators. “Noida is known as one of the finest planned cities in India. But, we have noticed that many roads have been engulfed by encroachers. This is true for residential sectors too. I have directed officers to identify the encroachments and serve notices to the encroachers,” he added.

According to Deepak Agarwal, CEO of the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority, a heliport is being constructed in Greater Noida. “This month, the pre-bid process was completed. The heliport will be constructed in the next three years,” he said.

“We have also started a bus service in Noida. Soon, we will introduce more buses. We are encouraging people to use this service,” Mr Agarwal added.

Officials, meanwhile, said that to boost infrastructure in sectors along the Noida-Greater Noida expressway, the Noida Authority has started working on projects, including connecting Faridabad and Greater Noida.

“An arterial inter-change road has been planned to offer better connectivity to Sector 150 and its nearby sectors with Noida, Greater Noida and Delhi. Work is expected to begin in a month. Apart from this, all internal roads have been widened. We are also developing the 30-acre Saheed Bhagat Singh park here,” said another senior Noida Authority official.

Bridge across Yamuna
Sector 150 will be connected to Faridabad via two bridges on the Yamuna. Work on these is expected to kick-off in the next few months. Also, once the Kalindi Kunj road is opened to public, travelling to south Delhi will become easier.

Officials also added that 50,000-seater cricket stadium will be built in Noida along the expressway in Sector 152. This new stadium, which the Noida Authority has planned as a venue for Test matches, ODIs and T20s, will be part of the sports city project.

Noida Metro unveils first look of Aqua line trains

NOIDA: The first Metro ride to Greater Noida is still a year away but the preview of what has been billed as a top-of-the-line project on all parameters has been unveiled. And it does not disappoint.
The first visuals of the Chinese-made rakes that will run on the 29.7km Aqua line were released by Noida Metro on Sunday. The photos reveal an impressive aerodynamic design, spacious cars and a soothing colour scheme synchronised with the line's 'aqua' theme. Each train of four coaches, NMRC said, will have a seating capacity of 186 and can carry approximately 1,000 passengers.

A demonstration coach will arrive in February 2017. The rakes will start getting delivered from the first week of July 2017, Santosh Yadav, NMRC's managing director, told TOI. The coaches are being manufactured by China's CRRC

Corporation Limited. The Aqua line will have 19 rakes with four coaches each, which makes a total of 76 coaches that it will supply. Each coach costs around Rs 4 crore. "Trains will run at a speed of 35 km/hour and at a frequency of 10 minutes initially. In peak hours, they will run at five-minutes intervals. Frequency will be tweaked to address commuting traffic," Yadav said.
Initially, NMRC will operate 11 trains along the corridor. "While the seating capacity of each train will be 186, the standing capacity will be 848 passengers," Yadav said. "Hence, the total capacity of each train will be 1,034 commuters."

Elaborating on the features of the coaches, Yadav said they are lightweight cars made of stainless steel and aluminium. Each train will be equipped with a passenger information system, a public address system and an emergency announcement system from the operation control centre.
Besides, all the stations will be equipped with platform screen doors. The track, from Sector 71 in Noida to Bodaki in Greater Noida, is expected to be commissioned by December 2017.
