The Ministry of Civil Aviation has decided to privatise 13 airports, currently under the Airports Authority of India, packaged in six buckets with a mix of a profitable and an under-performing airport to be monetised through the Operation, Management and Development Agreement (OMDA) model. After leasing out Ahmedabad, Mangalore, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram airports on public-private partnership mode, the AAI had selected Bhubaneswar, Varanasi, Amritsar, Raipur, Indore and airports for the second round.

According to sources, the first bundle includes a combination of Tiruchi and Salem airports. By the end of FY20, the AAI had earned a profit of ₹22.85 crore at Tiruchi whereas Salem airport had incurred a loss of close to ₹8.76 crore. So the bidder has to take two airport as a bunch one profit marking and one loss making airport so once Trichy airport is privatised Salem airport will managed by same bidders ....

An additional Rs 50 crore has been earmarked for the airport to park two more flights. A parking lot has been selected near the fire station. As the passenger plane is currently arriving from , work is to start following the order of the Directorate of Civil Defense of India after formulating the relevant safety rules. And facility also implemented in Salem airport so we can expect soon ....

Annual rentals for flying training schools also called flying training organisations (FTOs) in six new airports, including Salem in Tamil Nadu, have been dropped to ₹15 lakhs as against ‘several’ crores previously. This is to make setting up FTOs more attractive. Two FTOs will be given slots at each airport for 25 years based on competitive bidding. Bid documents should be out by December 15

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has got approvals for its ‘liberalised’ policy for FTOs. (Flying Training School) Six airports - Belagavi, Jalgaon, Kalaburagi, Khajuraho, Lilabari and Salem - have been identified as the first batch to be bid out. These airports have minimal disruptions due to weather and commercial/ military air traffic, This is under the double the Commercial Pilot Licence programme of the government wherein India will double its flying training capacity and become a global training hub,
