Crane Boom Angle vs Lifting Capacity โ Explained
The boom angle is the angle between the crane boom and the ground.
Key Rule:
* Higher boom angle (more vertical) = Higher lifting capacity
* Lower boom angle (more horizontal) = Lower lifting capacity
Why?
When the boom angle decreases, the load radius (distance from the craneโs center to the load) increases.
As the radius increases:
* The load creates more overturning force (moment).
* The crane becomes less stable.
* Therefore, the craneโs safe lifting capacity decreases. #
