INDIA AND UAE SIGNED CEPA : TEA HAILS

India and UAE signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and will get duty free access to the UAE.
In a Press release issued today, Shri. Raja M Shanmugham, President said a much expected Agreement, first of its kind in a decade, will help Tirupur Exporting units to enhance its Market share in UAE and he was also hopeful that by speeding up the negotiations, other Agreements with UK, EU, Australia and Canada will also get signed as early as possible and that will bring a level playing field to our exporters and help them to compete effectively. After highlighting the policy support of the Government for giving morale booster to our exporters, he was expecting that the commencement of negotiations with USA and signing of an agreement will also be a need of the hour to increase our market share in the Prominent market.
Shri. Raja M Shanmugham said TEA has originally set a Target for Tirupur knitwear business reaching Rs.One lakh crore in 2020 itself but got postponed to 2024 due to Covid Pandemic impact and other factors. He said the signing of agreements revive the feel good factor among of exporters and with this positive direction, he is confident of achieving the target in 2024.
He pointed out that UAE is a crucial market and as of now, the knitwear exports from Tirupur to UAE is about Rs.3,500 Crore and was hopeful that the value will get doubled in next five years.
Shri. Raja M Shanmugham mentioned that low cost value products are normally destined to UAE market when compared to US and EU markets and is expecting that in future, the high value added Garments quantity will also get increased in addition to low value items.
He said he has sent Thanks letters to Architect of this agreement, Shri.Narendra Modi, Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri. Piyush Goyal, Hon'ble Union Minister of Textiles cm Commerce Minister and Shri B.V.R Subrahmanyam, Commerce Secretary for taking up the country to a new positive direction in the Foreign trade front.
