DBGT Sets a New Benchmark with the Widest Vessel Ever Handled β
Dakshin Bharat Gateway Terminal (DBGT) is pleased to announce another significant milestone with the successful handling of the ad hoc vessel M.V. MSC SILVIA, which berthed on 19 July 2026.
π With a record-setting beam (width) of 48.20 metres, M.V. MSC SILVIA is the widest vessel ever handled at DBGT, marking a notable achievement in the terminal's operational journey and demonstrating its capability to efficiently accommodate larger mainline vessels.
π The vessel, with a Length Overall (LOA) of 300 metres and a carrying capacity of 9,411 TEUs, arrived from Port of Onne, Nigeria, further underscoring DBGT's growing role in facilitating global trade and supporting larger vessel deployments.
β This milestone reflects the continued support and strategic vision of the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOCPA), whose commitment to infrastructure development has been instrumental in strengthening Tuticorin's position as an important gateway for international maritime trade.
π€ We extend our sincere appreciation to MSC Line for its continued confidence in DBGT and its decision to route mainline vessels through the terminal, further enhancing regional connectivity and trade opportunities.
π Our gratitude also goes to the EXIM trade community and the shipping fraternity for their ongoing trust, partnership and collaboration.
π A special acknowledgment to Team DBGT, whose dedication, meticulous planning and operational excellence continue to enable the safe and efficient handling of increasingly larger vessels.
π DBGT remains committed to enhancing port capabilities and strengthening Tuticorin's position as a preferred hub for global shipping, logistics and international trade.
