BIC Sport has announced the launch of an international series for its
BIC SUP One Design Challenge. The format is the usual One-Design principle:
all competitors race on the same rigid board design, racing round pre-defined
courses, all under a set of simple race rules with a clear aim : racers having
fun, racing for fun, and no one being at any advantage through
« superior » equipment.
For more than 10 years now, BIC Sport has been a leader in promoting monotype (One Design)
competitions that have enabled thousands of youngsters to get into top level racing where
competitors all use the same equipment, making a level playing field for everyone. The result is
that the BIC Techno 293 OneDesign windsurf board and the O’pen BIC dinghy for juniors have
established themselves amongst the most dynamic monotype sailing classes in the world.
In 2013 the same principle will be rolled out in Stand Up Paddle, creating a series of innovative,
fun competitions open to all-comers.
The first BIC SUP One Design contests were run as « test events » in America, France and
Puerto Rico towards the end of 2012. Their instant success showed how much the racers and
the watching public alike were up for the concept.
