Get familiar before visit

Zard-Kuh is the name of a with the altitude of 4221m that inspires every to at least climb Zard-Kuh once. Zard-Kuh, which is famous as the roof of Iran, is located in Shahr-e Kord, the capital of Chahar Mahal & Bakhtiari province. It is stretched along Zagros mountain range between two great rivers called Kuhrang and Bazoft.
These heights with 15km of width have consisted of peaks higher than 4000m which Kolunchin is the highest one. After Kolunchin, the highest peaks are Haftanan with 4180m, Shah-e Shahidan with 4076m, and with 4000m of heights above sea level in order. Zard-Kuh mountain range after Dena is the highest one in central .
Another point about Zard-Kuh region is county which is the fourth high city in Iran with an elevation of 2350m. its center is named that has unique natural attractions and is a magnificent destination for nature lovers in all four seasons.
It has pleasant weather in spring in a way that even in June you can vernal weather. The beauty of Zard-Kuh is much more noticeable with lots of springs and rivers flowing out of Zard-Kuh. The best time to visit Zard-Kuh is from May to September.
You may have the chance to spend time with the Bakhtiari nomads of Haft Rang tribe in the heart of an untouched and second-to-none nature which will create memorable moments for you.
The most important must-visit attractions of Kuhrang county are the lovely fritillaries’ plain of Kuhrang, Sheikh Ali Khan cascading waterfall, Chama ice cave which seems like a deep tunnel filled with snow and icicles and is well-known as the greatest drinkable water resource of Iran, Kuhrang dam in Sheikh Ali Khan village, Dimeh spring in Dimeh , Tunnel-Aval of Kuhrang, and stair village called Sar Agha Seyed.

Alam-Kuh (4848m.) is located in , province. Mazandaran province is one of the most popular destinations for Iranian people. It benefits from a humid weather. Moreover, you can enjoy the great view of the marvelous Caspian Sea and dense . Beside all these activities, you can also experience mountaineering.
Alam-Kuh
Alam-Kuh is the second highest mountain of Iran after Damavand and it is part of Alborz mountain range.
Alam-Kuh itself is a combination of two words ‘Alam’ which means flag’ or ‘tall’ and ‘Kuh’ which means ‘mountain’.
For those who are on Damavand, it’s suggested that they climb Alam-Kuh first for an acclimatization so that their bodies are accustomed to the elevation.
Alam-Kuh is also famous for its big walls that are considered the most wall of Iran.
How to get there
Generally, there are two popular routes to take. Either of them come with different levels of difficulty. The northern face aka ‘ ’ has big walls to climb and it is considered the hardest path. The southern face, ‘Hesarchal’ is the most popular route to ascend. To summit via southern face, first you should take Chalous road to get to Kelardasht. From there, there’s a one hour ride to Vandarbon County and there you can get some rest or take a shower at the ‘Federation Mountaineering Lodge’. Then, you head to ‘Tange-Galu’ by a four wheel drive where your begins. There are mules to carry the extra load on your way to . Hesarchal is a vast field where usually camp there. The next morning, you will summit Alam-Kuh which takes 5-6 hours and then you come back to the camp for a convenient rest. The day after, you can head back to Tehran.
Note: All the travelers and mountain climbers who are interested in climbing Alam-Kuh have to pay permit ascend at the Federation Lodge, before starting their venture. You must be noted that you can pay for permits in every federation office but there is option for you to pay the permit in Vandarbon (the closest village to Alam-Kuh).
Activities
If you’re into big walls, you can enjoy big wall climbing from the north face, Alam-Kuh.
Nature enthusiasts can also try trekking from the south face and there, you will enjoy the scenery of the camping spot including pond, river and the panoramic view of the levelled summits around.
For those who seeking an adventure, Alam-Kuh ski mountaineering is among programs that are highly recommended.

Time to visit
Regarding the location of Alam-Kuh and your interest, you should decide when to go. For big wall climbing and trekking the best time would be from June to September. According to the snow season, would better be done between November to March.

Five best trekking destinations in Iran

Trekking is an exciting and enjoyable long walk with several challenges. Usually, in trekking destinations, uneven plains and long trails are expecting you to trek them. The equipment needed for trekking is almost what is used for going through nature; trekking boots, light backpack, water, and food, etc. Trekking is technically easy and there is no need for any special skills.
Now everything depends on your decision! If you’re going to plan for a trek, here we’re introducing you five best trekking destinations in Iran.

Mountains and hills in
Talesh or Tavalesh heights have consisted of several hills, mountains, and summits that make this region one of the best trekking destinations in Iran. Some of the summits have more than 3000m altitudes and their highest one is called “Qizil Yurdu”. The average rainfall is also high in the region.
Various rivers flow down from Talesh heights that make a picturesque view in the region and assure you that you’ll enjoy trekking in Talesh.
There has mild winters and moderated summers, wide grasslands, precious forests, etc. Thus, trekking there with a group of friends would be very fun and exciting.

Another one of the best trekking destinations in Iran is Eshq valley which means the valley of love. It is located 110km of Shahr-e Kord city in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province. The longest river in Iran, the Karun river, flows through there. Eshq valley is an untouched attraction of the province and contains lots of cascading waterfalls and rivers which bring peace to the region.
In addition to trekking, you can also plan for activities like rafting, cycling, fishing, and photography. The best time to visit Eshq valley is in April and June.


Subatan region is close to Talesh located in Gilan province. It has an altitude of 1800-1900m above sea level, so there is exposed to many winds. Subatan has cool weather in hot seasons because of those winds.
In the local language, Su is the name of a plant commonly known as Golpar (Persian hogweed), Vaton means growing. Since there are plenty of Persian hogweeds grown in every spot of the region, it is called Subatan.
Plains, hills, and green pastures that are covered in wildflowers every spring host a lot of eco-tourists.


Mesr is the name of a village near Khor and in Isfahan province and is one of the best trekking destinations in Iran. Those who are interested in trekking or hiking in deserts can enjoy its desert’s endless beauty.
The dunes of the Mesr desert are the most beautiful part of the desert. Walking barefoot on these dunes will be an unforgettable experience.
Deserts usually have a hot and dry climate, but it is different in fall and winter. In autumn and winter, the weather is moderated and the best time for visiting deserts like Mesr desert is in fall and winter; but it gets very cold at night.


Lalan or Lalun village is one of beautiful villages around Tehran in Shemiran district. It is located 45km north of Tehran and has a view of mountains and high summits of Iran. In summer it has cool and favorable weather and in winter it is covered in snow. There are several springs and waterfalls in the region; like Talkh Ab mineral water spring, , cascading waterfall. Mashhad is one of the big cities of Iran located in province in the northeast of Iran. In fact, after Tehran, Mashhad is the widest city in Iran with 351km of area. Since the shrine of saint who is the eighth Imam of the Muslims, it attracts more than 27 million national and 2 million international pilgrims annually.

Hezar Masjed Mountains are stretched in the north of Khorasan Razavi and like a natural border, it separates Iran from Turkmenistan. The highest peak in those mountains is Hezar Masjed peak with an altitude of 3140m above the sea level.
Climbing mountains of Hezar Masjed is possible from two different routes. One is from the south face and the other is from the north face starting in “Layen-e Now” (New Layen).
Binalud mountains:
Binalud mountains are a part of range dissevering Mashhad and Neyshabur. The highest peak of Binalud mountains is Shirbad peak with an altitude of 3339m above the sea level which is located in the north of Bujan village. Binalud peak (3211m), Ghuchgar peak (2890m), Feleskeh peak (3150m), Zeshk peak (2515m), Chaman peak (2523m), and Zargaran peak (3100m) are other high peaks of Binalud mountains.

For trekking and climbing up to the Binalud peak, there are several routes that you can choose:
mountains of Binalud from the north face: It includes Farizi ridge. Farizi is one of Chenaran county villages and you can start your trekking from this in the north face.
Climbing mountains of Binalud from the south face: There are three routes in the southern face of Binalud. 1- Do-Kuhi ridge 2-Gerdeh ridge and 3- Suzaniha route.

Seh Qaleh desert is located in South province. The dark sky and very low light pollution in the region make the place an amazing for enthusiasts. In other words, since there are less atmosphere pollution and light noises in Seh Qaleh in comparison to other regions nearby, in addition to the perfect visual range in this region, astronomers there to record special phenomena in the night sky.
Seh Qaleh has the darkest night sky in Iran. “Seh Qaleh desert was the fifth desert in the world which have the darkest nights.” the director of Nojum-e Asman Mehr association said.

Facilities for
The tourists who to this fascinating desert can use in the region or they can camp in the determined spaces. Another facility for astronomers is an observatory in Seh Qaleh city.
Because of the darkness and the absence of clouds, this region is a great choice for observing planets like Saturn and venus and other phenomena in the galaxy and even beginners can observe them easily in this desert.
The location of the observatory has a suitable angle of sight, wind speed, and height. Thus, most astronomers choose this region for their activities.
Also, other activities than astronomy, travelers can have fun while riding camels and stepping on golden sands with bare feet. It makes the desert more enjoyable for tourists.

The best time to visit
Since the desert is located in a dry region and has very hot summers and freezing winters, the best time for to Seh Qaleh is in spring and fall.
Nowadays, nights in this desert still are the darkest night sky in , but the developing procedure of civilization, notable raise of municipal facilities in desert regions, constructions with their light pollutions which is increasing gradually, all have major influences on the view and the beauty of its dark sky.
