Fire on Lake Como
On August 13, at around 3:00 PM, a major wildfire broke out on the slopes of Monte Goj, in Spina Verde Park, near Como.
Due to strong winds, the flames spread rapidly, coming within about 20 meters of residential buildings during the night. Around 50 people were evacuated, while smoke and ash reached central Como, Cernobbio, and Moltrasio.
Around 100 firefighters and volunteers battled the flames throughout the night. On the morning of August 14, two Canadair firefighting aircraft joined the operation, scooping water directly from Lake Como. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
It is terrible to see how, in just a few hours, fire can destroy what nature has taken decades to create. At moments like these, we realize just how powerless we can be in the face of the forces of nature

Incendio sul Lago di Como
Il 13 agosto, intorno alle 15:00, è scoppiato un vasto incendio boschivo sulle pendici del Monte Goj, nel Parco Spina Verde, vicino a Como.
A causa del forte vento, le fiamme si sono propagate rapidamente, arrivando nella notte a circa 20 metri dalle abitazioni. Circa 50 persone sono state evacuate, mentre fumo e cenere hanno raggiunto il centro di Como, Cernobbio e Moltrasio.
Per tutta la notte circa 100 vigili del fuoco e volontari hanno combattuto contro le fiamme. La mattina del 14 agosto sono entrati in azione due Canadair, che prelevano l’acqua direttamente dal Lago di Como. Le cause dell’incendio non sono ancora state accertate.
È terribile vedere come, in poche ore, il fuoco possa distruggere ciò che la natura ha creato in decenni. In momenti come questi ci rendiamo conto di quanto siamo impotenti di fronte alla forza della natura
