Did you know we are certified by the Solar Impulse Foundation with the Efficient Solution Label?

It’s a label that certifies products, services and processes that are both clean and profitable, meaning they combine credible environmental and economic performance while still profiting.

Regarding environmental benefits, NEXT is able to reduce distance traveled by the entire fleet moving the same amount of passengers (compared to a taxi service) by 60%, generates 60 to 80% less traffic, reduces CO2 emission per passenger by 60% and is 80% recyclable.

Despite the high level of innovation, we are still able to profit: we have 50% less infrastructural cost for charging and parking (compared to electric buses), 50-100% less driver cost due to higher average occupancy rate and less than two years payback time (for a taxi-like scenario).

The label is given after a rigorous assessment performed by independent experts, following stringent criteria, making the Solar Impulse label internationally recognized and endorsed by many institutions, states and cities all over the world. That’s why we’re so proud to have it, certifying our commitment towards sustainability and environmental concerns.

Si tratta di una certificazione che garantisce che prodotti, servizi e processi siano sia sostenibili che redditizi, il che significa che trovano un equilibrio tra la generazione di profitto e l’impegno ambientale.

Riguardo ai benefici ambientali, NEXT è in grado di ridurre il percorso totale dell'intera flotta di veicoli trasportando lo stesso numero di passeggeri (rispetto a un servizio di taxi) del 60%, genera dal 60% all'80% di traffico in meno, riduce le emissioni di CO2 per passeggero del 60% ed è riciclabile all'80%.

Nonostante l'alto livello di innovazione, siamo comunque in grado di ottenere profitti: abbiamo il 50% in meno di costi infrastrutturali per la ricarica e il parcheggio (rispetto agli autobus elettrici), il 50-100% in meno di costi legati al conducente grazie a un tasso di occupazione media più elevato e un periodo di ammortamento inferiore a due anni (per lo scenario taxi).

L'etichetta viene assegnata dopo un rigoroso processo di valutazione condotto da esperti indipendenti, seguendo criteri rigorosi, che rendono l'etichetta Solar Impulse riconosciuta a livello internazionale e appoggiata da molte istituzioni, stati e città in tutto il mondo. Per questo siamo molto fieri di averla ottenuta, a certificazione del nostro impegno nei confronti della sostenibilità.

From a bold idea to tangible prototypes, our innovation journey never ceased 💥

In our previous post we shared the inception of the concept for a smart transportation system. However, shortly after, significant developments took place.

In 2016, we had the privilege of meeting Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai and prime minister of UAE, who expressed keen interest in our project on Twitter. During this encounter, we unveiled our functional prototypes. At the same time two life-sized static mockups were displayed in Berlin and Dubai during GITEX, marking our dedication to drive the future of transportation.

The year 2017 marked substantial strides in our progress. We laid the groundwork for our first full-sized functional vehicle, a pivotal step toward realizing our envisioned future. By 2018, we showcased two operational vehicles at prestigious events: the World Government Summit in Dubai and City Walk Dubai.

And now? We have successfully navigated through homologation tests in Italy, forged collaborations with industrial and commercial partners worldwide, and stand poised to revolutionize conventional perceptions of transportation.

Our first prototype ✏️

It was 2011 when the visionary idea of NEXT transportation system began to materialize. Our founder and current CEO Tommaso Gecchelin was studying Design at IUAV when he started envisioning a system of modular vehicles able to dock together (you can see the first sketches below).

In 2012, Tommaso took this vision to the next level, and presented it as part of his thesis at IUAV. This initial project was undeniably futuristic: the vehicles could vertically elevate while docking. While some aspects have evolved since that initial idea, certain core elements remain unchanged: a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and efficiency.

The pivotal moment arrived in 2015 when Tommaso found an equally ambitious partner in the US, Emmanuele Spera. Together, fueled by determination and creativity, they unveiled a 1:10 scale prototype at Tesla's headquarters in California. That first prototype was created in a garage, and was gradually transforming into a tangible business concept.

A piece on major Italian newspaper la Repubblica announcing our new 2.5 million euros investment 🚀

We can finally share that we signed the investment agreement for the entry of Paradigma Management Consultancies LLC into our shareholding structure, which will strengthen the already existing partnership with an investment of 2.5 million euros.

Paradigma Management Consultancies LL is a company incorporated in the United Arab Emirates and participated by Paradigma - an Italian incubator which is already our partner - and a pioneering automotive and insurtech group with top experience in Middle East and India, who will be the first leading investor in the company outside Italy.

This new step will allow us to grow even more to revolutionize public transportation, thanks to financial support, a new assembly site in UAE and qualified personnel that will help us with the production of our vehicles.
We are grateful for this new opportunity, and excited for everything that will come… NEXT!
