In the Italian tradition we have a kind of "pasta" made with potatoes which most of you readers know as "gnocchi".
The first time in Taiwan I felt so surprised seeing that taiwanese people made a dessert with the same shape and technique like our gnocchi.
So after years adapting my taste to the Chinese concept of "sweet" I found myself liking dessert that are not just less sweet, but that are also made with "strange" ingredients to the eyes of a common italian, especially red beans.
In the last few years I started to reproduce this delicacy, called Yuyuan (芋圆, taro balls) that - unlike one might think - can also be made with red or purple sweet potatoes (地瓜), usually accompanied by sweet red azuki beans and a plant-based black jelly (grass jelly) made with the Grass of the Immortals (仙草).
Since this grass jelly is believed to reduce the body heat and that we are living in a hotter planet, I think it's a good idea to bring sweetness in our life eating healthy food that are our everyday medicine for a longer life.
So, with that being said, I'm going to take my dose of immortality and wait for your comment down here.
Have you tried this dessert? 👩🍳
