We are headed to Sicily to FINALLY close on the apartment after 14 months of craziness!

PS. we've learned to find the cheapest city in europe to come in to then enjoy it a bit and then jump to Sicily. So first stop is BRUSSLES BELGIUM for a few days!!

You're not going to believe this, but we still don't legally own the apartment in Sicily. It's been over one year.

I have not said much about it because libel is a much different thing in Italy than it is in the US but once this is all resolved I will tell the story.

To say 13 months of buracracy has sucked every bit of joy out of this experience is an understatement.

I have, however found some amazing people who I feel sure I'll have lifelong friendships out of it because we are all trauma bonded, but that's the most basic update I can give.

Our Italian apartment, Return to Sicily, is just about ready for visitors! I'll be working on a booking page soon. The property is beachfront and about 1.45 drive from Catania. I will have a calendar online you can look and see what might work for you.

Taormina (which you might know from White Lotus Season 2) is about an hour drive from our apartment in Sicily and it's one of our favorite stops. The boys really enjoyed it even though it was raining.

Introducing boys to REAL PASTA at Paquito an amazing restaurant named Paquito in Ganzirri about 10km from our new apartment. We loved it and can't wait to come back soon. This town is precious and is definitely growing like so much of Sicily.

It's much easier to drive across and between than most people imagine. They drive on the right like in the US and have toll roads very similar to American interstates. Cities and small tows are a ZOO, but between is pretty smooth. But make sure you have coin. Often when an attendant is not present you'll need to pay with exact change. I have seen SOME card pay be installed but not many and there is telepass but you would have to pay that daily fee on your rental car.

If you have ever used you know they take terrible customer service to a fine art. I got on the live customer chat today at 7:00pm to get something corrected on a ticket and was 93 in the online queue. It is now 11:36pm and I've been #2 for the last hour. Literally left and had a nice meal and only went down 6 spots.

highly recommend doing food tours on your trips. Its a great way to see a lot of places, learn a lot about a cities unique dishes and try new things. We all enjoyed quite a bit on todays tour and the boys were very adventerous eaters!!

Some days you have a walking tour and it just pours down rain and there's nothing you can do about it. So you make it work. Then you take a massive afternoon nap. On the upside Notre Dame was BEAUTIFUL this morning at sunrise!

When we come to Sicily we usually look for the cheapest city in Europe to fly into, spend a few days there, then hop a cheap flight over to Catania. This time it was Paris. We suggest flying overnight if you can and then do whatever you can to grab a nap. We paid an extra fee to our airBnB to get in early. We sleep usually 2-3 hours, wake up and try our best to "get on the time zone". Usually we are pretty successful and today we had no problems and don't expect any jet lag. Since bodies are still tired even if minds are not we usually do a Big Bus Tour first half day. This gives you some key first sights AND gives you the lay of the land of your city without absolutely exhausting your body. We finished with a nice on-brand French dinner at a bistro and are turning in at 10:18pm with plans to get up for our first tour tomorrow around 7am. In the meantime we got our first taste of Paris in Early Spring.
