Ortigia is a little island where slow living still feels possible. Mass tourism and overcrowding put pressure on the island and on those of us who call it home. Yet living here, I find it easy to return to my own rhythm and the small things that make me happy. Everything is close at hand.

I took these photographs over the past month—little glimpses of my everyday life.

Even at home, history surrounds me. I live in a seventeenth-century building, and the one I see through my window may be just as old. Some days, I almost forget which century I’m living in.

There is so much here to capture your attention quietly: a window, a changing light, a familiar street. Small things that invite you to pause.

From time to time, I share them with you. And that, too, makes me happy.

The posts where I share knowledge rather than photographs of myself tend to receive fewer likes. Yet they carry some of the messages I care about most.

From Maria Rita, I learned that craftsmanship means patience, love for an object, and trust built with clients over many years.

When these skills disappear, we lose more than beautiful objects. We lose ways of understanding our past—and knowledge that could inspire our future.

Not every place needs to announce itself.

In Cassaro, I find myself slowing down for what might be easy to pass by: a green window, a broom by an old wall, the shade beyond a stone arch, a moment shared on the steps.

None of these is a sight to tick off. Together, they remind me that a village is made not only of its buildings, but of the lives around them.

That is the Sicily I want to keep learning from — and sharing with you.

Twenty-one seconds could never hold a whole Sicilian summer.

There were quiet streets, unexpected turns, long conversations, art, food, and people I’ll carry with me long after the season ends.

These are just a few moments I managed to capture. The rest became memories. 🤍

September did not come to me as a list of places.

It arrived in conversations: at a bakery door, inside a workshop, and in the moments when travellers met local people.

It waited in a narrow lane. It appeared in fruit laid on painted ceramic, in a boat made bright against the harbour, in lace, candlelight, walls and evening squares.

These are not simply beautiful details. They are how a place reveals its memory — and how I keep learning to see Sicily: slowly, personally, through the people who give it life.
