Visiting Sicily this autumn? 🇮🇹 Save this guide to some of the most beautiful places in Western Sicily.

📍 Erice
A beautiful medieval town sitting high above the coast. Wander through the little stone streets, enjoy the views and make sure you try a genovese, the local pastry Erice is famous for.

📍 Segesta
Come for the ancient Greek temple, but don’t miss the theatre higher up on the hill. The temple dates back to the 5th century BC and the countryside around it makes the whole place even more impressive.

📍 Castellammare del Golfo
One of those towns that looks good from every angle. Start with the panoramic view from above, then head down to the harbour and explore the old town.

📍 Selinunte
Ancient Greek temples right by the Mediterranean. The archaeological park is huge, so give yourself enough time to wander around - especially if you want to stay for golden hour.

📍 Mazara del Vallo
A completely different side of Western Sicily. Get lost in the narrow streets of the Kasbah, look out for colourful ceramics and enjoy the mix of Sicilian and North African influences.

And the best part about exploring Sicily in autumn? Fewer crowds and plenty of time to actually enjoy the places you visit.

If you’re looking for things to do in Ortigia, add this to your Sicily itinerary 👇

In the heart of Ortigia, Syracuse, you’ll find the lively Ortigia Market - full of fresh seafood, local cheeses, olives, spices, Sicilian street food and plenty of local character.

The market has long been part of everyday life in Ortigia, bringing together local vendors, fishermen and residents shopping for fresh ingredients. Today, it still keeps that traditional market atmosphere alive.

So, why visit the Ortigia food market?

🫒 Taste local Sicilian products
Wander between stalls filled with local cheeses, olives, cured meats, pistachios, almonds, herbs, spices and extra virgin olive oil. And if someone offers you a sample, say yes.

🐟 Watch the local fishmongers at work
Fresh fish and seafood are a big part of the market. Watch local fishmongers prepare the catch of the day and see a side of Syracuse that feels wonderfully authentic.

🥪 Stay for lunch
Once you’ve explored the stalls, stop at one of the small cafés, sandwich shops or food spots around the market, and enjoy a relaxed lunch. You won’t be disappointed.

Our tip? Come hungry and take your time. The Ortigia Market isn’t just somewhere to shop - it’s one of the best places to experience the food and atmosphere of Syracuse.

✨ Want to discover it with a local? Join our Ortigia Street Food Tour to taste local specialities, hear the stories behind them and discover some of our favourite spots.

📍 Save this for your Syracuse & Ortigia itinerary.

Save this for your next trip to Sicily 🇮🇹🍷

Sicily is one of Italy’s most fascinating w**e regions - and the w**es can change dramatically as you travel around the island.

Here are 5 Sicilian w**es worth knowing - and where to look for them.

Marsala is much more than a sweet w**e served after dinner.

Produced around the town of the same name in western Sicily, this fortified w**e can actually range from dry to sweetand comes in different styles and ageing categories.

And the experience is part of the story. Some w**eries in Marsala date back to the 18th century, with tastings taking place among huge oak barrels and historic cellars. Sicily in Travel’s experience also introduces the local Grillo, Catarratto and Inzolia grapes used in Marsala production.

📍 If you’re visiting western Sicily: add a w**ery visit to your Marsala itinerary and taste it where it’s actually produced.

If there’s one Sicilian red to remember, Nero d’Avola is a good place to start.

Its name literally connects it to Avola, a town in southeastern Sicily in the province of Syracuse, where the grape has a long history. Today, however, it is grown much more widely across the island.

The w**e is typically full-bodied, warm and fruity, making it a very different expression of Sicily from the lighter reds you’ll find around Etna.

W**e tip: try Nero d’Avola from different parts of Sicily. Where the grapes are grown can noticeably influence the style of the w**e.

Here’s one to remember if you’re travelling around southeastern Sicily.

Cerasuolo di Vittoria brings together two native Sicilian grapes: Nero d’Avola and Frappato. That combination is what makes it interesting: Nero d’Avola contributes structure and depth, while Frappato brings a fresher, more aromatic side.

And despite the name Cerasuolo, this is a red w**e - not a rosé.

Its production area extends beyond Vittoria itself and includes designated territories in the provinces of Ragusa, Caltanissetta and Catania.

Ever wondered what a w**e grown on the side of an active volcano tastes like? 🌋🍷

Meet Nerello Mascalese, one of the grapes most closely associated with Mount Etna.

The vineyards here can sit at very different el

Did you know you can find some of the best-preserved ancient Greek temples in Sicily? 🏛️

Welcome to Agrigento.

The ancient city of Akragas was founded around 580 BC and became one of the most important cities in the Greek Mediterranean. More than 2,500 years later, you can still walk through its remains at the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

Here’s some of what you can explore:
🏛️ Temple of Concordia: one of the best-preserved ancient Greek temples in the world.
🌿 Temple of Juno: sitting high on a ridge with beautiful views across the archaeological park.
🏺 Temple of Heracles: one of the oldest temples in the Valley.
⚡ Temple of Olympian Zeus: once one of the largest Doric temples ever built.
🌳 Kolymbethra Garden: a historic garden filled with citrus trees, olives and Mediterranean plants.
🪦 Ancient ruins: traces of city walls, tombs, sanctuaries and ancient Akragas.

And our tip? Don’t make the temples your only stop.

Just a short drive away, you’ll find Scala dei Turchi, stunning white cliffs and one of the most recognisable spots on Sicily’s southern coast 🌊

What makes it so special?
🪜 The natural staircase: wind and water have shaped the cliffs into smooth, stepped layers.
🏴‍☠️ The story behind the name: local tradition links dei Turchi to pirates who once landed along this coast.
🌅 The sunsets: the white cliffs become even more beautiful as the light changes.

Ancient Greek temples + the Sicilian coast in one day? Definitely one to add to your Sicily itinerary 💛
