☝ When addressing Blanking functions, it is essential to consider EN IEC 62046, one of the key standards required for certification.
This standard focuses on the application of protective devices on machinery. It defines the requirements for selection, positioning, configuration, and commissioning of protective devices capable of detecting the presence - whether temporary or continuous - of individuals within hazardous areas, in order to protect them from dangerous moving parts across a wide range of industrial applications.
👉 In this context, the objective is not simply to install a safety sensor, but to achieve an effective reduction of risk to an acceptable level.
Amongst all the available technologies to be evaluated based on the specific application, blanking functions play a fundamental role. They enable the machine to continue operating even when specific beams of the light curtain are interrupted.
The new SafeReady Plus light curtain integrates multiple blanking functions:
🔹 Fixed Blanking – suitable when materials or machine parts are constantly present within the protected area
🔹 Floating Blanking – ideal when materials or machine parts pass through the detection field, interrupting beams at different positions
Combined with Reduced Resolution*, these features provide a highly flexible integrated solution, capable of adapting to diverse application needs while maintaining compliance with risk reduction requirements.
*The sensor ignores objects smaller than its detection capability, such as cables or tubes, while still detecting larger objects, such as an operator’s arm.
