One of my favorite markets in Kingston is in Hope gardens (historic entrance) every Saturday 9am-3pm you can get veggies, fruits, drinks, goat cheese and milk (you have to try their chocolate milk! ), oyster mushrooms, gluten free bread and cakes, clothes, honey, skin products, books and much more! All made in Jamaica on organic, natural farms! You literally meet the farmers by the tables.

It’s time to book your ticket!! Did you know that is not only for avid runners? It is for everyone! Big, small, fast, slow, runners, walkers, couples, friends, work mates, clubs, schools, Jamaicans l, visitors .. so basically every human with two feet.. one foot or even no feet at all! The Reggae Marathon is not just an exciting run but also a great way to see down town. Running through the art district, the harbour and at every corner you’ll find a car with an impressive sound system blasting uplifting reggae music! The run ends in a party where you can rehydrate with coconut water, spring water from Cathrines peak and of Course a ice cold beer. You will also find tourism information, massage, fruits, açai bowls and entertainment from famous jamaican artists.

Let me introduce you to one of Jamaica’s finest and most versatile dancers and teachers, Chriss Choreo. From Kumina to Dancehall, Soca to Samba, she does it all.

So when she announces her classes, you don’t skip.

In late March, she hosted her Carnival Origins class, one of my favorites for preparing for Jamaica Carnival. Why? Because Chriss is the Queen of Carnival herself, and a true history nerd who teaches the cultural origins behind every movement.

For three hours, we explored wine technique, Kumina, Soca, Dancehall, and Samba, with guest teachers and around 40 beautiful women in the room. It was sold out, but the kind of women Chriss attracts made it easy. No one minded standing a little close.

I highly recommend catching her classes when she is teaching live in Jamaica. And if you cannot make it in person, check out her online classes, from fitness to sensual dance to samba.

And for the girls whose hearts skipped a beat when the samba started, Chriss is building a community of Jamaican women who want to learn samba and eventually go to Rio for Brazil Carnival. Reach out to her for more info.
