A different taste of Japan 🍇

Japan’s w**e country offers more than what is in the glass.

In Katsunuma, Yamanashi, a w**e festival brings together local w**es, vineyard culture, and the joy of celebrating a region’s harvest and traditions.

As the season moves north toward Hokkaido, the vineyards enter another chapter of the Japanese w**e calendar.

These festivals can be a wonderful way to experience Japan beyond its familiar landmarks—connecting w**e with local culture, people, food, and place.

Festival dates are seasonal and limited, so if you’re planning a trip to Japan, it’s worth seeing whether one fits into your itinerary.

This is the first of a series exploring Japanese w**e travel: next, historic w**eries, followed by beautiful accommodations and ryokans that make a w**e-country escape even more memorable.

Travel thoughtfully. Discover a different side of Japan.

Nagasaki Marriott Hotel — convenience meets comfort.

What stood out to me during my stay was the space: generous guest rooms, spacious public areas, and a lovely view over Nagasaki.

Its biggest advantage, however, is the location. Directly connected to Nagasaki Station and next to a major shopping and dining complex, it makes getting around and everyday travel remarkably easy.

I would especially consider it for travelers who value space, convenient transport connections, and the familiarity of an established international hotel brand.

When choosing a hotel, I look beyond the room to how well it fits the journey.

Where craft w**e meets island wellness

Did you know that 46 of Japan’s 47 prefectures have licensed w**emaking facilities?

Nagasaki Prefecture’s the very first producer is hidden far out in the East China Sea on the Goto Islands: Goto W**ery.
Facing maritime winds and volcanic soils, they ferment their signature Campbell Early Rosé using wild yeast cultured from native island camellia blossoms.
The result? A bright, mineral-driven, dry-to-off-dry rosé crafted specifically to match Goto’s fresh seafood and island wagyu.

Where to stay:

Goto Conkana Kingdom W**ery & Resort (image_6.png): Stay right on the w**ery grounds in private cottages, lounge by the pool, and walk straight into the tasting room.
Goto Retreat: A luxury design sanctuary nearby, featuring ocean-facing onsen baths and curated wellness programs.

Uncork Japan’s best-kept secret. Save this reel for your next escape off the beaten path.

A taste of Nagasaki at Cathedréclat.

A beautiful seven-course dinner showcasing local ingredients—from Unzen beef to Sonogi green tea, thoughtfully paired with w**e.

One of the perks of my stay? My hotel credit covered one full dinner for two.

This is the kind of added value I look for when arranging stays for my clients.

Hotel Indigo Nagasaki Glover Street — where history meets contemporary Nagasaki.

Set within a historic building dating back to 1898, the hotel brings together beautifully preserved architectural details, local stories, thoughtful design, and a wonderful sense of place.

I especially loved the way the history of Glover Street is woven into the stay—from the red-brick architecture to the former chapel with its beautiful stained glass.

And when I arrange your stay through my travel advisor network, you may enjoy preferred benefits such as daily breakfast, hotel credits, and VIP recognition.*

This is what I look for when selecting hotels for my clients: not simply a beautiful room, but a stay that becomes part of the destination.

Planning Japan? Let’s make the stay as memorable as the journey.

Going deeper into Koshu — 甲州, Japan’s distinctive white grape. 🍇🇯🇵

A fascinating tasting exploring Koshu w**es from different regions of Japan, including a rare example made from California-grown Koshu grapes.

It was also a great introduction to Koshu of Japan (KOJ) and its work to bring this uniquely Japanese grape to a wider international audience.

One grape, many places, and so much more to discover. 🍷

A day of Japanese w**e in Yokohama — with Hokkaido on my mind. 🍷

Tasting Pinot Noir from Sorachi and Niki was a reminder of just how much there is still to discover in Japan’s w**e regions.

What interests me most isn’t only the w**e itself, but the places behind the bottle — the landscapes, producers, food, and the possibility of experiencing them as part of a journey.

Hokkaido is definitely going on my research list. 🇯🇵

Did you know w**e is produced in 45 out of Japan’s 47 prefectures?
With nearly 500 craft w**eries across the country, Japan’s domestic w**e scene is booming—yet only 5 regions hold strict Geographical Indication (GI) status.
From Yamanashi’s crisp Koshu to bold reds from Nagano and Kyushu, this is the side of Japan’s food and drink culture most travelers completely miss.

I’ve always believed that w**e can tell you something about a place—its climate, food, culture and people.

So this month in Japan, I’m looking at the country through a different lens: w**e.

From Tokyo’s growing w**e scene to Yamanashi, Nagano and eventually Hokkaido, I’m curious about the people, places and stories behind 日本ワイン.

With my WSET Level 3 foundation and W**e Scholar Guild studies, I’m returning to serious w**e study and adding Japan to the map.

And I’m especially interested in what happens when w**e becomes part of the journey—not simply something in the glass.

This is just the beginning. 🍷🇯🇵

Would you want to explore Japan through w**e.

TOKYO is home to hundreds of contemporary art galleries, tucked into high-rise complexes, quiet side streets, and converted waterfront warehouses.

Today we’re exploring two distinct hubs: the sleek, architectural spaces of Azabudai Hills (home to mega-galleries like Pace and Azabudai Hills Gallery) and the sprawling industrial warehouses of Tennozu Isle (Terrada Art Complex).

If you’re mapping out a full Tokyo gallery crawl, here is how the city breaks down:

- Ginza / Nihonbashi | Fine Art & Blue-Chip
Legacy commercial spaces, prestigious private galleries, and luxury house exhibitions.
- Roppongi / Akasaka | Contemporary & Experimental
The museum core, surrounded by modern commercial spaces and international heavyweights in gallery complexes like Piramide.
- Shibuya / Harajuku / Aoyama | Pop Culture, Street & Design
Cutting-edge street art, fashion crossovers, subculture spaces, and lifestyle-driven design studios.
- Kiyosumi-Shirakawa / Tennozu Isle | Avant-Garde & Large-Scale Spaces
Repurposed industrial warehouses and canal-side compounds hosting emerging Asian artists, large installations, and contemporary incubators.

Save this for your next Tokyo trip. Which scene are you visiting first?
