let's take a moment to pray for all the victims of the Battle of Okinawa.
June 23rd is Okinawa’s Memorial Day.
The Battle of Okinawa (April 1, 1945 - June 22, 1945) was the last major battle of World War II.
It was also one of the bloodiest.
188,136 Japanese soldiers and civilians were killed.
Half of the civilian victims were local Okinawan residents, among them children.
More than 12,000 American soldiers, sailors, and Marines were killed during the fighting.
On June 23rd 1945, top Japanese generals Mitsuru Ushijima and Isamu Cho committed su***de in Mabuni, Itoman City, resulting in the end of the Battle of Okinawa. That day is now observed as Memorial Day in Okinawa.
Today marks 82 years since the end of the Battle of Okinawa.
