One thing I've noticed during my East Africa trips is that the moment Kenyans cross into Tanzania, they instantly become rich. 😂🇰🇪🇹🇿
You exchange KSh 1,000 and suddenly you're holding almost TSh 20,000. Exchange KSh 10,000 and now you're walking around with nearly TSh 200,000 in your pocket.
That's when the transformation begins.
People start checking their wallets every few minutes. Some walk slower. Others hold their money like they've just sold a piece of land. For a few hours, everyone feels like a millionaire.
The problem comes when you start spending without doing the maths.
You see a price of TSh 10,000 and think, "That's cheap!" Next thing you know, you've bought drinks for everyone around you and your millionaire status is disappearing faster than you expected.
By the second day, the same person who was flashing notes at the border is carefully calculating the price of a soda before buying it.
My advice? Keep a calculator nearby and don't let all those zeroes fool you.
But honestly, that's part of the fun of travelling. For a few hours, Tanzania makes every Kenyan feel like they've made it in life.
