Chorm Temple gradually regained its original appearance and beauty after one year and four months of restoration

Chorm Temple, part of the Prasat Preah Pithu Group in Angkor Thom, has undergone significant restoration over the past year and four months, leading to a remarkable recovery of its original appearance and beauty. The restoration efforts were initiated in November 2023 by the APSARA National Authority in collaboration with the Korean Heritage Agency.

Prior to the restoration, Chorm Temple was in a severely dilapidated state, suffering from the effects of time and natural elements. Tree roots had intruded into the structure, compromising its integrity and allowing rainwater to seep in, which weakened the foundation. Many stones had fallen or were damaged, including lintels and pillars, and some areas were missing stones altogether.

The restoration process began with a thorough review of historical documents from the French School of Asian Studies, the Angkor Conservation Center, and the APSARA National Authority to guide the team’s efforts. This was followed by an assessment of the damage and archaeological excavations to better understand the temple's structure and to locate and catalog the stones.

According to architect Thai Yamang, approximately 60 percent of the restoration work has been completed, with efforts focusing on reconstructing pillars, door frames, pediments, roofs, and lintels. The team is committed to reassembling the stones in their original positions, adhering to the guidelines set forth in the Angkor Charter.

As a result of these dedicated efforts, Chorm Temple is gradually transforming from a state of ruin back into a site of historical beauty and significance.

The Second Phase of excavations at Ta Prohm Temple unearthed a Buddha statue with a head preserved at the Angkor Conservation since the French era.

The recent excavations at Ta Prohm Temple have yielded significant archaeological findings, including a Buddha statue that has been partially reconstructed. Conducted by the APSARA National Authority in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the second phase of excavations took place in February 2025, focusing on an area outside the laterite enclosure northeast of the temple's third gallery.

Among the discoveries was a Buddha statue represented in the Bayon style, which was missing its head, feet, and right hand. This statue stands 1.16 meters tall and has a shoulder width of 56 centimeters. Notably, it is adorned with jewelry and features a robe and veil, with a unique left hand gesture placed on the chest—an uncommon representation in Khmer art.

The archaeologist Ms. Neth Simon reported that the body of the Buddha statue was registered as N°294. During the excavation, the team identified that this body matched previously excavated pieces: the hand registered as N°292 and the foot registered as N°168, both found during the first phase of excavations in July 2024.

Additionally, the head of the Buddha statue, which was discovered in 1927 and is currently housed at the Angkor Conservation under registration number DCA.6883-N139, was scanned and compared with the newly found body. This comparison allowed for a near-complete reassembly of the statue, with only the right hand still missing.

These excavations aim to organize and preserve the numerous art objects scattered throughout the Ta Prohm complex, highlighting the ongoing efforts to protect and understand Cambodia's rich cultural heritage.

ព្រះឥន្ទ្រជាអាទិទេពគ្រប់គ្រងលើទេពនិករផ្សេងៗលើស្ថានសួគ៌។ ព្រះអង្គក៏មានតួនាទីជាទេពខាងចម្បាំង ជាអ្នកបង្អុរទឹកភ្លៀង និងជាទេពប្រចាំទិសខាងកើត។ នៅក្នុងសិល្បៈខ្មែរការបង្ហាញទម្រង់ព្រះឥន្ទ្រ ជានិច្ចកាលតែងឆ្លាក់គង់នៅលើយាន្តជំនិះរបស់ព្រះអង្គគឺដំរីក្បាលបីដែលមានឈ្មោះថា“ឰរាវត“។ ហើយកេតនភណ្ឌរបស់ព្រះអង្គមានដូចជា៖ គ្រាប់រន្ទះ(វជ្រ) ស័ង្ខ ធ្នូ ព្រួញ និងផ្លែសន្ទូច។ ក្នុងបរិបទជំនឿខ្មែរនិយមគោរព ប្រតិបត្តិព្រះឥន្ទ្រតាំងពីបុរាណរហូតមកដល់បច្ចុប្បន្ន ដ្បិតគេឃើញមានរូបចម្លាក់បង្ហាញអំពីវត្តមានរបស់ព្រះឥន្ទ្រនៅតាមប្រាសាទ ក៏ដូចជាគំនូរនៅតាមវត្តអារាមនានា។
មានទេវកថាមួយចំនួនបានដំណាលទាក់ទងនឹងព្រះឥន្ទ្រថា ៖ មានអសុរឈ្មោះ “វ្រិត្ត្រ” ប្រមូលទឹកយកទៅទុក ធ្វើឲ្យកើតគ្រោះរាំងស្ងួតនៅលើផែនដី។ ដោយយល់ហេតុខាងលើនេះទើបព្រះឥន្ទ្រទ្រង់យកគ្រាប់រន្ទះចោលទៅអសុរនោះបង្កើតបានជាផ្លេកបន្ទោរហើយភ្លៀងក៏បង្អុរធ្លាក់ចុះមក។ ឈុតឆាកត្រង់ព្រះឥន្ទ្រគង់លើដំរីក្បាលបីចោលគ្រាប់រន្ទះទៅអសុរៈនេះតែងនិយមបង្ហាញនៅលើហោជាង និងផ្តែរប្រាសាទខ្មែរសម័យអង្គរ។
ជាក់ស្តែងតាមរយៈសមុច្ច័យសារមន្ទីរជាតិកម្ពុជាមានផ្តែរប្រាសាទ (ក.1663) មានប្រភពមកពីខេត្តបាត់ដំបង ស្ថិតក្នុងសម័យអង្គរ និងផ្តែរប្រាសាទ (ក.2086) មានប្រភពមកពីវត្តបុទុមបុប្ផារាម(វត្តខ្នារ) ភូមិខ្នារ ឃុំស្នាមព្រះ ស្រុកបាកាន ខេត្តពោធិ៍សាត់ ស្ថិតក្នុងរចនាបថបាខែង។ សព្វថ្ងៃផ្តែរទាំងពីរនេះកំពុងដាក់តាំងបង្ហាញនៅចន្លោះរបៀងនៃសាលសម័យអង្គរនិងក្រោយសម័យអង្គរ សារមន្ទីរជាតិ។ ក្រៅអំពីការបង្ហាញចម្លាក់ព្រះឥន្រ្ទចោលគ្រាប់រន្ទះនៅលើផ្តរប្រាសាទ យើងក៏ឃើញមានការបង្ហាញឈុតឆាកនេះនៅលើហោជាងប្រាសាទនាសម័យអង្គរ។ ជាក់ស្តែងការបង្ហាញចម្លាក់យ៉ាងរស់រវើក ត្រង់ឈុតព្រះឥន្ទ្រចោលគ្រាប់រន្ទះនៅលើហោជាងមួយនៃប្រាសាទបន្ទាយស្រីនាស.វ.ទី១០នៃគ.ស.។ វត្តមានរបស់រូបព្រះឥន្ទ្រក្នុងសិល្បៈខ្មែរ ជាជំនឿមួយដែលចង់បង្ហាញពីទំនាក់ទំនងជិតស្និទ្ធរវាងទេព និងទឹកភ្លៀង។

ប្រតិមានាងកាលី «ទេពស្រីគង់លើសត្វទីទុយ»

ប្រតិមានាងកាលីត្រូវបានរកឃើញនៅក្នុងតួប៉មសង់ពីឥដ្ឋ នៅប្រាសាទក្រហម។ តួប៉មនេះជា ទ្វារកំពែងទី៣ ចូលប្រាសាទធំ។ លោក George Groslier បានប្រមូលកំណាត់ខ្លួនទេពស្រី បំណែកបល្ល័ង្ក ឬបំណែករូបផ្សេងៗទៀតមករក្សាទុកនៅសារមន្ទីរឆ្នាំ១៩២៣។
នៅពីឆ្នាំ២០១២ ជើងទម្ររបស់ប្រតិមានាងកាលីមានស្នាមជង្គង់ជាប់ជាមួយត្រូវបានរក្សាទុកក្នុងសារមន្ទីរជាតិ ក្រោយបីឆ្នាំមកទៀត បំណែកត្រគាកត្រូវបានប្រទះឃើញនៅក្បែរប្រាសាទក្រហមនេះដែរ។ សព្វថ្ងៃបំណែកទាំងអស់នេះត្រូវបានផ្គុំចូលគ្នាស្ទើរពេញលក្ខណៈទាំងស្រុង។
ប្រតិមានាងកាលី រងការខូចខាតខ្លាំងតាមពេលវេលា ការរលំធ្លាក់ ការលួចជីកកកាយ ការឆេះព្រៃ និងសំណើមខ្ពស់ ធ្វើឲ្យមានសារធាតុអំបិលជាប់សាច់ថ្ម បណ្ដាលឲ្យពុកផុយ របេះសាច់ថ្មត្រង់ដងខ្លួនចេញពីជើងទម្រ។ សម្រាប់ការជួសជុលពង្រឹងផ្នែកពុកផុយរបស់ប្រតិមានេះមិនងាយស្រួលឡើយ ដោយសារបច្ចេកទេសប្រើប្រាស់នៅមានកម្រិត ដែលត្រូវមានភាពអត់ធ្មត់ និងប្រើពេលយូរតាមបែបបុរាណវិទ្យា។ ការជួសជុលនេះគ្រាន់តែថែរក្សាការពារកន្លែងដែលទ្រុឌទ្រោមកុំឲ្យខូចខាតបន្តទៀត មិនតម្លើង ឬបន្ថែមរូបរាងដូចដើមទេ។ ទោះស្ថិតក្នុងស្ថានភាពខូចខាត ក៏សោភ័ណភាពនៃសក់រួចប៉ប្រះស្មា និងលម្អសត្វទីទុយត្រង់ជើងទម្របួនទិស នៅតែបង្ហាញភាពស្រស់ស្អាត និងអំណាចឫទ្ធានុភាពរបស់ទ្រង់៕

ព្រះនាងទុគ៌ាជាទេពស្រីទាក់ទងចម្បាំងដ៏ល្បីល្បាញមួយក្នុងព្រហ្មញ្ញសាសនា និងជាមហេសីរបស់ព្រះឥសូរ។ ទេវកថា ដែលពេញនិយមមួយនិយាយពីព្រះនាងទុគ៌ាមានឈ្មោះថា «ទុគ៌ាមហឹង្សាសុរមាទ៌ិនិ/Durga Mahishasurmardini» ពណ៌នាពីចម្បាំងប្រយុទ្ធគ្នារវាងព្រះនាងទុគ៌ា និងបិសាចក្របីមហឹង្សាសុរ ហើយបានទទួលជ័យជំនះអំណាចដោយព្រះនាងបានទទួលព្រះពរពីព្រះឥសូរ និងព្រះនារាយណ៍ដែលមានសមត្ថភាពសម្លាប់បិសាចក្របីដើម្បីថែរក្សាសណ្តាប់ធ្នាប់នៃចក្រវាលមិនមែនដោយសារកំហឹងនោះទេ។

ប្រតិមាទោលព្រះនាងទុគ៌ាជាសមុច្ច័យរបស់សារមន្ទីរជាតិកម្ពុជាដែលយកមកបង្ហាញនេះ ជាអំណោយរបស់ព្រះចៅអធិការវត្តសិរីសាគរប្រគល់ជូនមកសារមន្ទីរជាតិនាថ្ងៃទី២២ ខែមេសា ឆ្នាំ១៩៥៣ ដែលស្ថិតក្នុងរចនាបថព្រៃក្មេង នាសតវត្សទី៧-៨ មានប្រភពមកពីទួលកំណប់ ភូមិក្រសាំងចារ ឃុំពញាលៀង ស្រុកកំពង់ត្របែក ខេត្តព្រៃវែង។
ប្រតិមានេះមានរាងស្រឡូន កាច់ចង្កេះបន្តិច មានព្រះហស្តបួនតែបាត់បង់អស់បីនៅសល់តែមួយខាងស្តាំផ្នែកខាងក្រោយដោយមានកាន់ជាប់ចុងបន្តិចនៃកេតនភណ្ឌរបស់ទ្រង់។ ផ្នែកផ្សេងៗបាក់បាត់អស់ពុំអាចកំណត់ថាមានកាន់កេតនភណ្ឌអ្វីប្រាកដ។ សំពត់ស្តើងមានលម្អជាក្បាច់ឆូតនៅសងខាងសំពត់បត់ចូលក្នុងទម្លាក់ផ្នត់ចេញក្រៅដែលមានសណ្ឋានដូចផ្លែសណ្តាយ។ មុខរាងមូលទ្រវែង ភ្នែកតឹងបន្តិច ចិញ្ចើមមិនជួបគ្នា ទងត្រចៀកវែងៗ និងមានគ្រងម្កុដរាងបំពង់។

A door guardian statue from Tonle Snguot temple, an ancient hospital, is on display at the Preah Norodom Sihanouk-Angkor Museum after being repaired.

SiemReap: A sandstone door guardian statue, 1.82 meters high, 0.78 meters wide, and 0.5 meters thick, has been repaired and displayed in the Preah Norodom Sihanouk-Angkor Museum.

The head of the exhibition team and the guide at the Preah Norodom Sihanouk-Angkor Museum, Mr. Kun Phally, said that the door guardian statue was broken into six different pieces, such as the head, body, arms, legs, and earrings. The face was also eroded, almost losing the shape of the lips, nose, and eyes. After the team studied the history of the statue, the decoration, and the size of the damage, both inside and outside, the experts used the repair technique according to each stage and reconnected to the original form. In addition, to keep the door guardian statue stable and secure, the team also made a new sandstone pedestal and prepared a poster about the history of the statue on display in the Preah Norodom Sihanouk-Angkor Museum for visitors to study and understand the evolution of Khmer art history.

This huge door guardian statue was found during excavations in 2017 at the Tonle Snguot temple, an ancient Angkorian hospital in the north of the former city of Angkor Thom, now located in Nokor Krao village. Kork Chak, Siem Reap city. Researchers have speculated that the statue may have been built in the late 12th and early 13th centuries AD.

Kun Phally explained that the first door guardian statue of Khmer art was found on the brick walls of the Sambor Prei K*k group of temples during the 7th-8th centuries AD. Later, the door guardian statue became more popular and evolved into a single door in the Pre-Rup style during the 10th century AD and continued to King Jayavarman VII from 1181 to 1220 AD. In general, the single-door guardian statue in the reign of King Jayavarman VII was big and tall on the body, adorned with ornaments such as crowns, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and ankles. APSARA National Authority's restoration team to strengthen the platform of the Lolei temple

SiemReap: the restoration team from the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology of the APSARA National Authority is repairing and strengthening the platform around the southwestern tower of the Lolei temple.
During the restoration work, the team collected the broken and rotten bricks, reassembled them, and used the mortar to fill in the gaps to prevent water seepage and other pests.
This is part of the conservation work that the APSARA National Authority has been carrying out regularly to preserve the 1,200-year-old Lolei temple, which will remain strong for a long time.
