Beyond passengers and logistics, Incheon Airport is taking the next step toward becoming a global aviation MRO hub ✈
Last year, Incheon Airport completed its first facility within the Advanced Aviation Complex, a Passenger-to-Freighter (P2F) conversion facility, marking the full-scale launch of its aviation MRO business.
In May, the first Boeing 777 passenger aircraft arrived at the facility and began an approximately 180-day conversion process into a freighter.
The project has now entered one of its most critical stages: the installation of the Main Deck Cargo Door, which requires precision cutting and structural reinforcement of the aircraft fuselage.
This progress is also contributing to the growth of Korea’s aviation industry.
A company based in Sacheon manufactured the main deck cargo door and reinforcement structures and obtained Parts Manufacturer Approval (PMA), while around 4,000 aircraft parts are being produced by approximately 40 domestic partner companies.
An Incheon-based company has also successfully localized an aircraft conversion and maintenance platform, expanding its opportunities into overseas markets.
Of the seven hangar sites planned within the Advanced Aviation Complex, investment has already been secured for three sites in the aircraft conversion and maintenance sectors. Going forward, Incheon Airport plans to actively attract a painting hangar as well, establishing a one-stop MRO service system covering maintenance, conversion, and painting.
The airport also plans to carry out up to six aircraft conversions annually, while continuing to strengthen the competitiveness of Korea’s aviation industry and expand opportunities for domestic companies to enter the global supply chain.
Beyond passengers and logistics, into MRO.
Stay tuned as Incheon Airport continues its journey toward becoming a global aviation MRO hub. ✈
