It's Tuesday! It's Travel Tip Time! This one came from a random question from a client after discussing the importance of taking travel insurance, and a very genuine question it is!

Q: Should I take a picture of my luggage and the contents, is that a good idea?

A : Yes, it’s an excellent idea, particularly for checked luggage. It can make an insurance claim much easier if your bag is lost, stolen, damaged, or items go missing.

Before travelling, I’d recommend:

📸 Photograph the open suitcase with the contents visible before you close it.
📸 Take another photo of the closed suitcase, showing its colour, brand and distinguishing features.
🏷️ Photograph the airline baggage tag/receipt once you check it in.
💎 For higher-value items, take individual photos and retain receipts where possible.
📱 Keep the photos somewhere accessible even if your phone disappears — e.g. iCloud, Google Photos or email.
🧾 If you have particularly valuable belongings, keep a quick list of the brand/model and approximate value.

For travel insurance, the photographs don't automatically prove the value or ownership of every item, so receipts, bank/card statements and other proof of purchase are still useful. But photos can provide very helpful supporting evidence of what was packed and the condition of the luggage before travel.

Remember, the ideal time to get travel insurance is the second after you've secured your vacation, because from that point onwards, you want your outlay covered.
