Allen & Co, the Caribbean’s leading provider of aviation emergency solutions, congratulates Princess Juliana International Airport’s Rescue and Firefighters team for their outstanding performance during last Sunday’s WestJet emergency.
On Sunday September 7th, 2025, an incident occurred at Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) involving a WestJet Boeing 737-800 aircraft, operating a flight from Toronto (YYZ) to Sint Maarten (SXM) where the aircraft came to a full stop on PJIA’s runway due to an apparent landing gear malfunction. Within two minutes after the incident, PJIA’s ARFF team was at the scene, secured the location, foam sprayed the aircraft’s right engine to prevent a fire from occurring after which they assisted with the evacuation of all passengers and crew from the aircraft. This textbook performance deserves the highest accolades from the industry.
PJIA’s ARFF team has been trained and certified by Allen & Co Caribbean through its FESTI Firefighter Training Program, and its instructors could not be prouder of the accomplishments of the team. Maureen Allen, CEO of Allen & Co: “The incident was Headline news here in Canada and I followed every minute of it online. Because I know these firefighters, I knew they were going to do a great job, and they did!”
