In 2010 Mbtw was founded as an importer and distributor of organic food ingredients and Italian organic consumer products, grown and processed by a group of Sicilian farmers and producers. Our experience in the organic field, entrepreneurship, and support to farmers and producers globally, allowed us to grow continuously since the foundation. Organic food is food grown without the use of chemical pesticides, artificial fertilizers, and genetic modification while practicing crop rotation and supporting biodiversity. Instead, farmers aim to create a natural balance between plants and animals to prevent crop failure. A healthy wildlife population can help prevent diseases. The soil retains its high fertility by naturally nourishing plants and crop rotation. Instead of changing a plant (GMO), organic farming solves the problem at its root by preventing disease. Organic agriculture
Organic agriculture is based on four principles: health, ecology, fairness, and care. Agriculture has a big impact on the environment as it covers almost 40 percent of the global land surface. Organic farming is about healthy soil, cover cropping, crop rotation, organic no-till, promoting biodiversity, and more. Organic farming involves less pollution of soil, keeping the soil healthy for generations to come. For this reason, organic isn’t just about food. It is about living in harmony with nature. And keeping the planet healthy. We are committed to making 100% organic food the standard! Farm to fork
The European Commission has published a strategic plan to accelerate a sustainable food system. This plan is part of the ‘’European Green Deal’’ (goal: reach net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050) and is called ‘From farm to fork’. The F2F Strategy aims to make the EU food system fair, healthy, and environmentally friendly. The strategy includes ambitious and concrete targets for pesticides, fertilizers, and antimicrobials. The F2F target is set at 25% of EU farmland to be farmed organically by 2030. Organic standards
The standards and requirements for organic food differ per country and per certification. Organic refers to touch products were cultivatedToto legally receives organic certification, the food must be at least 95% organic. An independent organization checks the organic products at least once a year. Mix Trading complies with many organic certifications, including SKAL, USDA, Demeter, FairTrade IBD, and many more.
