From Orphaned Calves to Lasting Coexistence......

From supporting orphaned elephant calves to advancing science and innovative conflict-mitigation solutions, HIP's Save Ali Pancha initiative continues to evolve.

With the launch of Phase II, HIPG, together with the Department of Wildlife Conservation and the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka (WNPS), will strengthen support for orphaned elephant rehabilitation through specialised elephant infant milk formula for 25 vulnerable calves at the Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawa.

Building on the successes of Phase I, which spanned wildlife conservation, scientific research, community engagement and technology-driven solutions, the programme continues to foster long-term coexistence between people and elephants in Sri Lanka.

NEW RECORD AT HIP!

We’re proud to announce a major milestone as we successfully handled the MSC Marie Leslie, delivering one of the highest-volume vessel calls in HIP history.

- 7,968 container moves
- 13,260 TEUs handled
- Between 11–15 April 2026

This isn’t just a number, it’s a statement.

We’ve officially surpassed our previous records (MSC Ilenia at 12,957 TEUs and MSC Ruby at 11,369 TEUs), showing a clear and powerful upward trend in our container operations.

HIP is rapidly strengthening its position as a key regional hub for containerised cargo, and this achievement proves we’re ready for what’s next.

Big thanks to our dedicated teams and partners for making it happen.

HIP Expands Capacity as Middle East Crisis Drives Surge in Shipping Volumes......

As global shipping routes adapt to ongoing disruptions in the Middle East, Hambantota International Port is stepping up to meet rising demand, reinforcing its position as a reliable hub along the vital East–West maritime corridor.

In response to a surge in diverted vessels, HIP has doubled its RoRo yard capacity expanded container yard capacity by 30%.

This rapid scale-up is supporting increased volumes in vehicle transhipment and container handling, driving record-high yard utilisation; showcasing the port’s growing strategic importance in a shifting global logistics landscape.

Behind the scenes, coordinated efforts across teams have enabled HIP to expand swiftly while maintaining operational efficiency and minimising congestion, even under heightened pressure.

As supply chains continue to evolve, HIP remains focused on delivering agility, reliability, and seamless connectivity when it matters most.
