Hambantota International Port (HIP) marked its sixth consecutive year of supporting the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Festival, reaffirming its commitment to preserving Sri Lanka’s cultural and religious heritage while strengthening community engagement and religious harmony. On 19th August 2026, representatives of HIP’s EXCO, OPCO, and staff presented the annual donation to the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya, continuing HIP’s longstanding support for this significant national religious and cultural event. HIPG CEO Mr. Wilson Qu and members of the management team also participated in religious observances at the sacred Kiri Vehera and sought blessings for the continued success and prosperity of HIP. Further strengthening the longstanding partnership, HIP and the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya exchanged commemorative mementos as a gesture of mutual appreciation.

Hambantota International Port (HIP) was pleased to welcome a 35 member youth delegation from Hong Kong on 8th August 2026, marking the second occasion that HIP has hosted a youth delegation from Hong Kong as part of a cultural exchange programme. From discovering the world of port operations to experiencing Sri Lanka’s rich heritage, the delegation enjoyed an engaging programme filled with interactive activities and meaningful cultural experiences. Their journey also included a visit to the Elephant Transit Home in Udawalawe, where they learned about HIP’s “Save Ali Pancha Project” and elephant conservation efforts. The delegation then visited the Hope Village Project, where they connected with local children, shared Chinese culture and traditions, and created lasting memories through learning and friendship.
