Welcome to the official page of Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport. The airport was declared open on 18 March 2013.

Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) (also known as the Hambantota International Airport) (IATA: HRI, ICAO: VCRI) is Sri Lanka's second international airport after Bandaranaike International Airport. The new international airport Mattala Rajapaksha International Airport is expected to expand Sri Lankan aviation industry whilst being a catalyst for the country's economic development enabling international trade, tourism, vocational training and employment. MRIA has been built in order to be compatible with the worlds largest aircrafts such as the Airbus A380 and has been designed according to the recommendations of the International Civil Aviation Organization. This facility will soon house its own MRO facility and two transit hotels within the aerodrome. Further, Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport will be establishing a cargo facility with international and local players basing warehousing and various cargo related business ventures within the premises of this magnificent facility. With an aim to be the prefered airport for future tourism in Sri Lanka, and also the mere fact that the location of the airport is in the exotic southern part of the country, the theme "Exotic tourism destination airport" is being adopted in making this endeavor a reality.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ජාත්‍යන්තර ගුවන් තොටුපල ආශ්‍රිත කිලෝමීටර් 5 ක වටසරියක් තුළ අඩි 300 ඉක්මවා සරුංගල් හෝ වෙනත් මෙවලම් හෝ වස්තූන් ගුවනේ යැවීම ගුවන් යානා මෙහෙයුම් කටයුතු වලට බාධා ඇතිවිය හැකි ජීවිත හා දේපල අනතුරකට ගෙන දෙන කාරණයක් වන බැවින් එය සපුරා තහනම් වේ.

යම් හෙයකින් මෙසේ කරුණු නොසලකා කටයුතු කරමින් නම්, එම පුද්ගලයන්ට එරෙහිව පවතින නීතිමය රාමුව යටතේ දැඩි දඩුවම් ලැබිය හැකි වරදක් බව ද ඔබ අවධාරණය කර සිටින්නෙමු.

எந்தவொரு சர்வதேச விமான நிலையத்தையும் மையமாகக் கொண்டு 5 கி.மீ. சுற்றளவிற்குள், 300 அடி உயரத்திற்கு மேல் பட்டம் அல்லது வேறு எந்த வானில் பறக்கும் பொருளையும் பறக்கவிடுவது முற்றிலும் தடைசெய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. இது சட்டப்படி தண்டனைக்குரிய குற்றமாகும்.

Flying kites or any airborne objects over a height of 300 feet, within a radius of 5 km from any international airport is strictly prohibited and a punishable offence.

Expression of Interest Proposal Briefing and site visit

Yesterday (22nd May 2026) marked another significant milestone in positioning Sri Lanka as a regional aviation and investment hub as the Expression of Interest (EOI) Investor Conference & Site Visit was successfully held at Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA). ✈️🇱🇰

The event brought together prospective local and international investors to explore the vast commercial and strategic opportunities available at MRIA, including aviation services, logistics, cargo operations, MRO facilities, manufacturing, renewable energy, hospitality, and tourism-related developments.

With its strategic location near the Hambantota Port and major international shipping routes, MRIA continues to showcase its potential as a gateway for integrated air-sea connectivity and future economic growth in the Southern region of Sri Lanka.
