So, after a week at home (mostly spent going out, eating, drinking and catching up with friends and family), I’m now in the beautiful walled town of Lucca. After finding my lovely little apartment (video coming separately) I went into town to recce the school for my language course, which starts tomorrow (see the third photo). Google maps told me it was a 20 minute walk and proceeded to lead me round the wall in an anticlockwise direction until we came to one of the entrance gates (photo 1) and then proceeded to walk me back the other way inside the wall! We eventually passed another gate which is almost opposite the road I’m staying in and about 500m from the school. So it’ll only take me 10 minutes in the morning.
I plan to walk the walls every day, so I’ll be keeping my step count up.

Morning all and happy Saturday! Yesterday was spent exploring the town, marina and fortress at Rethymno, which as you can see, was very pretty. All in all, it’s been a very nice week and we’ve managed to see a small bit of this end of the island. We’re flying back this afternoon and we’ll be home this evening. I’ve got a week at home, then I’m off to Italy for two weeks. Never a dull moment eh?

Another great couple of days up in the mountains visiting archeological ruins and a beautiful botanical garden. We also enjoyed some stunning views and two lunches at traditional restaurants. We also went to the top of the Samara Gorge, but didn’t do the walk.

There were no group activities today, so I walked along the beach to the nearby town of Kolymbari to visit the ancient monastery of Gonia. It was a very tranquil place with some stunning artwork, wonderful old manuscripts and stunning views. It very hot by the time I got back, so the afternoon was spent relaxing by the pool. We’re off on another sightseeing tour tomorrow so watch this space!

Such a lovely first few days, spent with the loveliest group of people. Sunday was spent exploring Chania and today we hiked in the mountains before spending a very relaxing afternoon by the pool. Beautiful weather too, so I’m feeling incredibly blessed.

Just back from a fab weekend in Edinburgh.
Despite having a very inauspicious start (we lost one whole day owing to being bumped off a flight and then having a subsequent flight cancelled) and ended up taking the train on Saturday instead, we enjoyed every minute.
Loganair did not deliver in any way, shape or form and we’ll never fly with them again. We’ve got to go back to Edinburgh again now though, as there’s so much to see and do. We highly recommend the Tattoo and the Johnny Walker experience.
