🌿 A Glimpse of the 'Old Man of the Forest' 🌿
Look at this incredibly distinctive face! 🐒
I captured this beautiful monkey during a recent outing, and I wanted to share it.😊
Its white whiskers and dark face make it look like a wise old soul.
This unique-looking primate is a Purple-faced Langur (also known as the Purple-faced Leaf Monkey). They are famous for that striking contrast—jet black skin and long, flowing white "sideburns."
Finding one is a real treat, as they are not as common as other monkeys.
🐵They are highly specialized tree-dwellers and are endemic to Sri Lanka, meaning they aren't naturally found anywhere else in the world!
Why they are in trouble:
Sadly, this incredible species is listed as Critically Endangered. Their survival is in serious danger. As development increases, their forest homes are being destroyed or fragmented. When they can’t travel through the tree canopy, they are forced to come to the ground, where they risk being hit by vehicles or attacked by dogs.
What we can do:
The key is habitat protection. By preserving Sri Lanka's rain forests, we are protecting the "home" of the Purple-faced Langur.
It's a powerful reminder that the amazing wildlife we share our island with is precious and fragile.
