When you explore Sri Lanka by electric tuktuk instead of a car or tour coach, you significantly cut your per-passenger carbon footprint. At , we operate Sri Lanka’s largest e-tuk fleet to help travelers explore deeper while treading lighter. 🛺⚡️ For us, sustainable tourism isn’t just about where you travel, but how you travel.

Long after the floodwaters recede, the impact of a disaster continues to be felt — especially across regional healthcare systems.
As part of our long-term recovery efforts following Cyclone Ditwah, we delivered more than $10,000 USD (LKR 3M+) in specialized cardiothoracic surgical supplies to Kandy National Hospital, helping secure 200+ life-saving heart surgeries for patients, many from rural communities.
This support was funded entirely by past travellers who fell in love with Sri Lanka and chose to stand with its people when it mattered most.
As Sri Lanka continues to recover, one of the most powerful ways to support local communities is to visit, travel beyond the usual routes, and help tourism income flow directly into rural economies and local trades.
Travel like a local. Support the community.💛

Floodwaters recede in days, but building local climate resilience takes months.
Looking back on Cyclone Ditwah, our interim impact report is a tribute to what radical human cohesion can achieve:

- $46,175 USD raised by past travelers & global supporters
- 317 Tons of food, medical aid & clothing delivered
- 750,000+ lives supported across Sri Lanka
- 128 Volunteers forming our local "Mud Army"

We are profoundly grateful that the love our tuktuk travelers felt for Sri Lanka transformed into direct action when our community needed it most. Today, the best way to champion Sri Lanka on her recovery journey is simply to visit, travel local, and share tourism income directly with local trades and rural communities.
Travel like a local, support the community.💛

For us, being a social enterprise means showing up for the people behind our journeys — especially when they need us most.
When Cyclone Ditwah struck, our former tuktuk supplier, Sudharma, and her children escaped with moments to spare before a landslide crushed their home. True social enterprise means protecting your supply chain long after the headlines fade. We provided direct relocation aid to rehouse her family safely: one story among 24 tuk-tuk owners we supported through emergency relief and rehabilitation.
We are deeply grateful to our past tuktuk travelers whose love for Sri Lanka made this life-changing aid possible. The best way to support reviving families like Sudharma’s? Visit Sri Lanka, travel local, and distribute tourism income directly into the hands of local trades.
Travel like a local, support the community.💛

What happens when travellers leave the usual tourist routes? The economic impact travels with them.
At tuktukrental.com, self-drive travel gives travellers the freedom to explore beyond Sri Lanka’s main tourism hubs while helping direct spending towards smaller towns, rural communities and locally owned businesses.
Our customer survey found that 95% of travellers venture outside the main roads, making an average of 2–3 stops per driving day, while 79% stay in homestays or guesthouses.
That adds up to an estimated USD 402 in additional rural income per traveller, contributing close to USD 5 million across rural economies in 2025.
For us, the impact of a tuk tuk journey is not just about how far travellers go, but where they stop, who they support, and how tourism income reaches local communities.

Over the past five months, we've had the pleasure of welcoming , a Hospitality & Tourism Management student from Saxion University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands, as an intern through an internship exchange program.

As part of her internship, Sanne researched the impact of on the community, the economy, and the environment. Through hundreds of interviews and countless hours of dedicated work, she developed a holistic understanding of our business and delivered insights that have been incredibly valuable to us.

As a social business, our success is measured by more than profit. What matters most is how effectively tourism income is distributed among local people and how well we balance business success with positive community impact. This is the heart of what we do, our "why". Sanne's research helped us better understand what tuktukrental.com means to our local tuktuk partners, customers, and the communities we work with.

We're excited to share some of the key findings from her research over the coming days. In this video, we're highlighting the social impact of tuktukrental.com and what it means for the people and communities at the heart of our work.

Sanne has been an exceptional student, a dedicated researcher, and, above all, a wonderful person. We're incredibly grateful for everything she contributed and the positive energy she brought to our team.

Thank you, Sanne, for your passion, commitment, and friendship. It has been an absolute pleasure having you with us, and we wish you every success in the future. We're sure you'll achieve amazing things! 💛🛺
