Sri Lanka Tourism Update: All Major Sites Open & Visitor Arrivals Progressing Strongly
Sri Lanka’s tourism industry continues to show remarkable strength and stability, with all major attractions, transport networks, and hospitality services operating smoothly following the recent weather disturbances.
Tourist Attractions
• All leading wildlife destinations — including Yala (all gates), Udawalawe, Minneriya, Kumana, Horton Plains, Wilpattu, and Bundala — remain fully open to travellers.
• Marine-based experiences such as Mirissa and Kalpitiya whale-watching tours, the Hikkaduwa Coral Sanctuary, and Pigeon Island National Park are functioning as normal.
• Cultural and heritage sites managed by the Central Cultural Fund are accessible without restriction.
• Forest tourism areas are generally open, except the Knuckles range, which is temporarily closed due to safety concerns.
Weather & Accommodation
• Clear, favourable weather is currently observed across major tourist hubs including Negombo, Kalutara, Bentota, Beruwela, Hikkaduwa, Passikudah, Arugambay, and Ella.
• Hotels and resorts in all regions report strong occupancy, with power and essential guest services operating without interruption.
Transport – Road & Rail
• Road access to main tourist destinations has been fully restored, and key highways are functioning efficiently.
• Railway operations on the Coastal Line are running according to schedule, while Main Line services are available up to Mirigama and Abepussa.
Fuel & Electricity Supply
• Fuel distribution continues across the island with no major issues, aside from minor delays reported near Kaduwela.
• Electricity supply has been re-established in almost all tourism regions, with a few isolated areas undergoing final restoration.
