Strengthening the EU-Liberia Trade Corridor:
GLS Group Cbairman & CEO participated in the recent EU-Liberia Business Forum, an event that marks a pivotal moment for the economic future of Liberia and its strengthening ties with the European Union.
During the forum, I had the privilege of representing the Liberian private Sector and highlighted the competencies, capabilites and growth of local enterprises. He also spoke in depth of our strategic alliance with APM Terminals. Mr. King stressed that the partnership is more than just a logistical milestone; it is a signal of a new era for trade, designed to streamline supply chains and position Liberia as a competitive hub in the West African region.
Mr. King also had the opportunity to join a distinguished panel to discuss investment opportunities within the Transport and Energy sectors. These two sectors are the backbone of any developing economy. However, to truly unlock their potential, we must address the perception of risk.
A Call to Action for the Government of Liberia:
During the discussions, Mr. King on behalf of the Liberian private sector made a strong call for the Government of Liberia to actively support and champion the Liberian private sector.
He emphasized that a robust, supported, and empowered private sector is one of the most effective de-risking factors for foreign direct investment. When international investors see a thriving local ecosystem and a government that stands firmly behind its indigenous businesses, it creates the confidence necessary for long-term, large-scale capital commitment. The signing event was witnessed by both European and Government of Liberia officials notably Madam Ellen Dagoseh (Honourable Minister of Commerce), Hon Lafayette Giddings (Minister of Public Works), Hon. Jerolinmek Matthew Piah (Minister of Information), Hon. Henry Saamoi (Executive Governor, Central Bank of Liberia), Hon. Sekou Hussein Dukuly (Managing Director, National Ports Authority), Hon. O'natty B Davis (President, Liberia Chambers of Commerce), Ambassador Levi Demmah (Ambassador of Republic of Liberia accredited to Belgium & the European Union) Ambassador Nona Deprez (EU Ambassador to Liberia, Dmitri Du Pues (EU Attache: Private Sector Development, Financial Instruments and Trade) amongst many dignitaries.
Our Chairman in his closing remarks said "Liberia is open for business, and with the right synergy between government policy and private sector innovation, we can create sustainable prosperity for all".
