Morning with “ Sfenj “ 🍩🍩
If you see locals lining up for these, join the queue! Sfenj, is like a deep fried donut and are a breakfast treat here in Morocco. It will set you back 1/2 a dirham (or 1 dirham if you're naughty like us and want it covered in sugar) and when it's that cheap you tend to develop an unhealthy addiction to them (hmm hmm 🤷🏼‍♀️). Watch the bakers make and knead the dough as you wait, it's quite a skill!
For us, our favourite sfenj can be found in Bab Souk.

Overnight train travel between Marrakech and Tanger

ONCF Al Boraq TGV Service

The Morocco Al Boraq TGV fast train directly links the cities of Casablanca and Tangier, serving the stations of Casa Voyageurs, Rabat Agdal, Kenitra and Tangier. Connections to regular trains are available to access all other routes and stations.

Morocco’s TGV is not just an amazing example of technology, it is a stunning engineering feat and has introduced a whole new travel experience to North Africa.

A limited amount of promotional fares are offered on each train – these fares will be the first tickets to be sold, so there is an incentive for purchasing Al Boraq tickets in advance.

Al Boraq connects Casablanca to Tangier in just 2h10mn, Rabat to Tangier in 1h20mn, and Kenitra to Tangier in 50mn.

ONCF Travel Protocol Post COVID-19

When full network train service resumes post the COVID-19 confinement period – tentatively scheduled for some time in July, 2020 – it will be with a new travel protocol.

- Seat availability will be limited on each train to allow for - - social distancing
- Certain seats will be off limits
- Advance purchase of tickets is strongly advised
- Purchase of electronic tickets will be encouraged to limit contact at the train station
- Wearing of face mask will be compulsory for the entire journey
- Strict adherence to the seat number marked on the ticket
- Boarding of train will be facilitated by zone – follow directions of platform staff and announcements

CTM Bus Company

The CTM bus company is a public company whose shares are traded on the Casablanca Stock Exchange. CTM services over 100 destinations in Morocco that include some of the same routes as the Supratours bus company, and also services exclusively the popular route between Fes and Chefchaouen. CTM also services over 60 destinations in France and Spain.

The company has a fascinating and rich history – it was founded on 30 November, 1919, and is the oldest Moroccan public transport company. It was established with the goal of accessing “all of Morocco”, inspired by an earlier trip to France in 1912 by Sultan Abd al-Hafid. The idea was to use the newly created colonial road system to link all major towns and cities. In the early days, the vehicles used were repurposed World War I military machines, and second class passengers would travel on the roofs of these vehicles. You will be glad to know that is no longer the case!
