Life Update!
As many of you know, I embarked on a career change a little under two years ago with the American Airlines Cadet Program. A program that allowed for me to have the time off to pursue this new chapter and give me the tools to transition to a pilot career.
After 18 months, I successfully completed that program and I can say that it was the hardest, most stressful, and emotional journey I have ever been on. Restarting school ten years after college and spending over $125k was a weight that certainly played a factor. I finished the program with all the ratings needed including my Certified Flight Instructor license.
Unfortunately due to the job market, the lack of mentorship, unstable connections, and poor networking, I could not find a CFI job. I was promised a job at my regional airline, but unfortunately after three months, and 130 applications, there was no job that was willing to hire me.
So I had no choice but to return to being a flight attendant. This was a heavy blow not only to my plans, but to my ego. I was so proud of what I accomplished, only to be turned away with no prospects. I went through all levels of grief, but ultimately I needed to make a living. I love being a flight attendant, but it was not the end goal.
I know this isn’t the end for my pilot journey, it is just a testament that things don’t work out the way you are promised, but you control your destiny. I haven’t given up, I know I will get there someday. Sometimes luck plays a much bigger role in your future than you can imagine. You are the only one who can make things happen for you. Other people get lucky, not that they are more qualified. Never give up, never compare your journeys, and continue to do everything to bring joy in your life.
This isn’t goodbye, it’s just see you later.
