Sampan Travel is now Travelife Certified! Congratulations to the Sampan team!

Sampan is the third company in Myanmar to have reached the Travelife Certified award. This means that Sampan complies with more than 200 criteria related to office management, product range, international business partners and customer information. The Travelife standard is formally recognised as in full compliance with the UN supported Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria (GSTC).

Sampan's aim is to " push responsible travel to be not a niche corner of the industry but the norm for tourism across the world."

On Saturday March 31st the MSTON had its first working group meeting to discuss how to best communicate sustainability with suppliers. One part of this was how we can get more hotels on board to support the Refillable Water Bottle Initiative. Some tour operators have begun to give their clients refillable water bottles to help reduce the amount of waste from plastic water bottles. The challenge now is to ensure those clients can actually refill their bottles and working with hotels is the first step.

DO YOU WANT MORE BUSINESS FROM EUROPE?

LAST CALL to apply for the CBI 2018-2021 tourism export coaching programme. The deadline for application is 1st March 2018.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME:
The new CBI programme offers coaching to Myanmar inbound tour operators, in order to build their capacities and to further pe*****te into the European tourism market. The objective to attract more European tourists to visit Myanmar and create more employment in the tourism sector in Myanmar. The programme will focus on sustainability as well as the development and market-promotion of Community Based Tourism programs. The 4-year company export coaching programme will include both one-on-one and distant guidance coaching from an international tourism expert. Furthermore, companies accepted for the programme will benefit from a wide range of trainings and webinars covering essential business subjects such as website and human resources development, website and social media use, participating in trade fairs and road shows and how to get high Return on Investment, developing new and unique travel programs and experiences. In addition, the CBI will provide trainings on sustainable tourism / CSR to support companies to work towards ’ sustainable tourism certification’ by making use of the internationally recognized Travelife scheme for tour operators and travel agents.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?
CBI is especially interested in working with small-medium enterprises (SMEs - min. 4 and max. 50 full time employees) and have a 50+% Myanmar ownership/management structure. Furthermore, the SMEs preferably already do some business with European markets, are committed to implement an export marketing plan, and are committed to sustainability and community-based tourism products.

What is the MSTON?

The Myanmar Sustainable Tour Operator Network (MSTON) has been established by Myanmar tour operators who were awarded Partner/Certified status in 2018 by the internationally recognized Travelife sustainability and award scheme for tour operators and travel agents. MSTON aims to become a leading network for the promotion of sustainable practices within Myanmar´s tourism supply chain. Tour operators in the network will share best practices, raise awareness, and seek greater coordination among organizations that are directly and indirectly linked to tourism.
