This is just one boatload from Thoddoo. Imagine the harvest over an entire month. Not every island has the land to produce at this scale, but every island has the potential to contribute. With greater investment in agriculture across the Maldives, we could reduce import dependency, strengthen food security, create jobs, and keep more of our wealth within the country.

The government should consider introducing dedicated agricultural financing, targeted subsidies, and long-term support to encourage more Maldivians to enter the industry. Investing in local agriculture is an investment in a more resilient and self-sufficient Maldives. 🇲🇻

Our reefs, our responsibility 🌊

From Rathafandhoo, Mr. Nizam Ibrahim is showing how communities can be part of restoring what we depend on. Through lavae-based reef restoration, even the smallest coral beginnings are given a chance to grow and rebuild our reefs.

As he continues his PhD to strengthen this method, his work is a reminder that protecting our oceans starts with awareness, action, and local leadership.

Meleyma, near Kolamaafushi at the gateway of Huvadhoo Atoll 🌊

A natural breeding ground shaped by reef, tides, and currents. Beneath these shallow flats, life moves quietly but constantly, making this area one of the most dynamic ecosystems in the atoll.

It’s also a perfect setting for fly fishing, where skill, patience, and nature come together in one of the Maldives’ most untouched environments.
