Union of Kabaza and Motorcycle Operators (UKAMO) in collaboration with Road Safety Alert Foundation (Rosaf) on Tuesday 23rd May 2023, distributed Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) to the Kabaza Motorcycle Operators in Kasungu District as one way of enhancing the effective performance of Kabaza and Motorcycle Operators in Malawi.

7TH UN GLOBAL ROAD SAFETY WEEK

Union of Kabaza and Motorcycle Operators (UKAMO) joined hands with the government and various stakeholders in commemoration of the 7th UN Global Road Safety week which took place from 15th_21th May 2023 at Lilongwe City Council.

This year's event was commemorted on a theme of Rethink mobility, calling for modal shift including walking, cycling and use of public transport.

The 7th UN Global Safety Week commemorates the need for the government and partners to rethink mobility including vesting in walking, cycling and using public transport which can promote equity and health of people.

During the ceremony, the Mayor of Lilongwe City, Richard Banda signed an International Walking Charter.

A newly established Union of Kabaza and Motorcycle Operators (Ukamo) has recruited 5 380 members following a membership mobilisation campaign it has rolled out in Lilongwe. Ukamo was formed last year to promote professionalism and the welfare of the business operators a bicycle and motorcycle taxis....

We are highly motivated by the response we are getting from the Kabaza operators. We both understand the situation and they agree to the solutions suggested and work collaboratively towards safety operations on our roads. This is a creative process.

Some experiences we don't get to hear from the victims but it's happening.
UKAMO & ROSAF is plunging into issues that are affecting our road users, especially Kabaza and develop solutions to curb road accidents on our roads.

What is causing kabaza road accidents is deep in its sense. If we can understand various aspects including behavioral, we would realize that we need a strong awareness directed at every road user to deal with this issue of reducing road accidents, as expressed in this video.
