Izamal, Mexico. A Magical Yellow Town

In 1993 the Pope Jean Paul II offered a mass here and crowned the Virgin. Now the convent also hosts a small museum which shows some of the Sacred art form the convent and objects and memories of the Pope´s visit, as well as dresses belonging to the Virgin of Izamal.
The center of the town is also painted all in yellow, using the same color as the Vatican´s flag.

Izamal, Mexico. A Place for pilgrims

With the Spanish occupation it was founded here the actual village of Izamal, where the Franciscan missionaries began building the church and convent in the XVII century on top of a Mayan temple to finally ending up in the magnificent monastery complex of our Lady of Izamal

At Izamal, you can see the biggest atrium in the continent becoming the most importance place for pilgrimage in the Yucatan peninsula nowadays.

Mayan archaeological site of Coba, Mexico

Coba´s early settlements dates to the Preclassic (350 BCE – 250 BC), and it reached its peak in economic and political power as a regional capital in the Post Classical period around the years 600-1000 AD when its population has been estimated around 50,000 inhabitants.

The Nohoch Mul Pyramid which means “big Hill” is the farthest group from the entrance. It contains the highest pyramid at Coba reaching 42 meters in height being the highest pyramid reported in the northern Yucatan.
