A church built on top of a pyramid 🇲🇽 — not coincidence, but conquest.
When the Spanish arrived, many sacred Indigenous temples were destroyed — and churches were built right on top of them.
This wasn’t just about religion — it was also a powerful message of dominance.
The Templo Mayor, where I’m standing, was one of the most important ceremonial sites of the Mexica (Aztecs).
Today, right next to it, stands the Metropolitan Cathedral — built using stones from this very pyramid.
Today, Mexicans and Spaniards have a good relationship — but this city still holds the layers of a complex past.
