Who Has Gained the Most Market Share in U.S. Imports?

Over the past few years, Mexico has strengthened its position as the leading import partner of the United States, surpassing China in 2023 and maintaining its position in both 2024 and 2025.

In 2025, Mexico accounted for 15.4% of total U.S. imports, followed by Canada at 11.2% and China at 9.3%.

China’s declining share is largely linked to the United States’ increasingly restrictive trade policies toward China, which have contributed to renewed trade tensions and a shift in sourcing toward other markets.

At Racing Cargo, we closely monitor these changes because shifts in international trade flows create new opportunities for our network and customers. Understanding where trade is moving allows us to anticipate opportunities and adapt our commercial and operational strategy accordingly.

When cargo is complex, every detail matters.

Moving specialized equipment from Shanghai, China to Querétaro, Mexico involved more than simply getting it from one point to another.

Port congestion, customs inspections, complex classification, and the risk of demurrage all required close coordination. By working together with the terminal, shipping line, customs broker, and transportation team, we were able to keep the operation moving and deliver the cargo safely to its final destination.

From pre-inspections and customs planning to careful handling and inland transportation, every step was coordinated to reduce risks, control costs, and keep the project on track.
