KLIA Terminal 2 (T2) began its operations on 2 May 2014. It is the largest purpose-built terminal optimized for low-cost carriers in response to the exponential growth of low-cost travel in the region. It was built to replace the previous 35,290 square metres (sqm) Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT). T2 has an initial capacity of 45 million passengers per year. The terminal has a built-up area of 257,845 sqm with 68 departure gates, 80 aerobridges, 10 remote stands, includes a retail space of 32,000 sqm to accommodate a total of 220 retail outlets. The main terminal building of T2 is connected with its satellite piers with a skybridge, making it the first airport in Asia with such facility. This mega terminal is home to Air Asia, Air Asia X, Cebu Pacific, Citilink, IndiGo, Lion Air, Lucky Air, MYAirline, and Scoot. Note: Last updated on 12 February 2023 | Kuala Lumpur

AirAsia opens new Europe gateway for Filipinos via Istanbul

AirAsia is pushing beyond its Asian stronghold, giving Filipino travelers a new route into Europe through Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul without the budget carrier having to build its own network across the continent.

The connection combines AirAsia’s flights from the Philippines with its Kuala Lumpur-Istanbul service and the European network of Turkish low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines.

That puts cities including London, Zurich and Athens within the same broader network, significantly extending the destinations AirAsia can offer from the Philippines.

“As AirAsia Group expands its vision beyond ASEAN, our commitment remains the same — removing barriers and bringing these dream destinations closer to guests with our Fly-Thru service and partnership with Pegasus,” AirAsia Philippines president and CEO Anna Lu Victoria said.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is advising visitors attending the Formula 1 (F1) Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix 2026 at Sepang International Circuit (SIC), from Oct 2 to 4, to use public transportation, as a significant increase in traffic and vehicle movements is expected throughout the race weekend.

In a statement today, KLIA said parking at KLIA Terminal 1 and the KLIA Long Term Car Park is extremely limited and is expected to reach full capacity early each day.
