A lower freight rate can look like a win on paper.

But the rate you’re quoted isn’t always the true cost of moving the load.

A cheaper option can become expensive quickly when it comes with:

→ Missed pickup or delivery appointments
→ Detention and layover charges
→ Re-delivery costs
→ Last-minute recovery
→ Poor communication when something changes
→ Disruptions that affect the rest of your supply chain

Saving $100–$200 on the initial rate means very little if a service failure costs substantially more to fix.

That’s why freight decisions shouldn’t be based on price alone. Reliability, communication, available capacity, and ex*****on all have a value.

The objective isn’t to find the most expensive carrier, or automatically choose the cheapest.

It’s to find the best total value for the shipment.

The opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge marks an important milestone for Canadian infrastructure and cross-border transportation.

Connecting Ontario’s Highway 401 directly to Interstate 75 in Michigan, the bridge gives carriers and shippers a new route through one of North America’s most important trade corridors.

That means greater routing flexibility, additional border capacity and a stronger alternative when other crossings face congestion or disruption.

Carriers are turning down more freight than they have in four years — and shippers are paying for it.

Tender rejection rates hit 17.55% in June, the highest level since 2022.

That means carriers are walking away from contracted freight at a pace not seen in four years, and capacity is shifting hard toward the spot market.

For shippers, that shows up as blown route guides, last-minute rate hikes, and loads that don't move on the day they're supposed to.

Re**er and van spot rates are now running above contract pricing in several lanes, a signal that the market has flipped in carriers' favor, at least for now.

The takeaway: capacity planning can't be a once-a-quarter conversation anymore. It has to be continuous.
